Misleading 'CREATE POST' button

Thanks @Pollycat - I've merged that thread with the main MMD thread now.

We've recently included some information in our email to new Forumites, letting them know how to reply to a thread and how to create a brand new post. We hope that will help to ward off some future errors, but we're still discussing other ideas.

I saw that notice at the top of the boards I browse but it seems to have gone now (but that might just be me).

Re new Forumites...this poster has been a member of MSE since 2016 and only seems to post on MMDs.

Thank you - I've merged that comment with the main thread now.

We've still got those banner messages up for each individual account, explaining how to reply or start a new comment. You can make it disappear by selecting the little 'x' in the corner so I wonder if that might be what you did with yours?

Would you say there have been fewer of these incorrectly posted replies this year?

@MSE_James @MSE_Laura_F ....but why is it taking so long to simply change the incorrect label on the button to read correctly?
The red button at the top left that reads CREATE POST should read CREATE DISCUSSION as that is what it does. This was first reported nearly 2 years ago.
If you click the down arrow next to the button, it shows you 2 options, "Create discussion" and "Create poll" so why put CREATE POST as the main label? Obviously, to the unknowing, Create Post will suggest a reply post rather than a new discussion.

@BootsMullery - we're alert to this issue and are keen to improve things but unfortunately it's not as simple a change as it may seem.

I'm pretty certain that simply changing the text displayed on this button...

...so that it reads Create Discussion would go a long way towards avoiding the confusion.

There really is no program logic that needs adjusting to greatly improve clarity.

This ambiguity was first reported in June 2021 in this thread - The Create Post button.
