Well DD's job requires her to have her passport and ...she can't find it!  She paId me 'lip service' to it's whereabouts shortly before she moved away so now we have no idea which of the 2 locations it could be in! We are having a good hunt at home over the weekend, but I'm not optimistic about finding it.  In order to organise all household paperwork whilst we hunt I spent the past few days tidying the stationery 'cupboard' - in reality just a shelf in a tall kitchen larder type cupboard but still needed for loads of hi-lighters, post it notes, weekly planners etc whist both kids are still in education even if it's higher. Buying some items for this meant that yesterday wasn't a NSD, Wednesday was though. Taken into town by relative who had come for tea on Monday and treated to breakfast. Unfortunately I've already had to buy bread this morning so today won't be a NSD either.

    Hi Spendless,
Glad you had a good time away and that DD is becoming more settled. Also excellent news that she's managed to secure a job - hope the passport turns up. Can she use another form of ID if not? Birth Cert or Driving licence?
I hope something turns up for you workwise. I got my current job through a temp agency beginning with 'H'. Was initially a 3 month contract and I'm now permanent having just completed 3 years, so these things do work out sometimes. Good luck.
My DD is coming home for the weekend. She says she's missing us, but expect it's because she's missing the BF!
    Have a good weekend.
    Coxy

    Thank you savingholmes and Coxy11.

Enjoy your weekend with your daughter Coxy. Mine finishes on Thursday for half term. Due to a number of parties she's been invited to she isn't coming home until after Halloween and returning before Bonfire night!. She wanted some items for fancy dress, but expensive to order. I had a look round her room and came up with a handful of bits she can customise and was able to send a small box full via courier for £5. I was pleased with that. I know you said you were putting together some items @Coxy11 and wondered about the cost of heavier items. Don't know if that would work for you.

Agency has contacted me twice but for jobs that are outside of my town, so not interested. I'm a nervous motorway driver nowadays and my car is nearly 16 years old and due it's MOT soon. If it doesn't pass and can't be repaired, it puts me in a dilemma. Do I replace, because though handy it's not as necessary as it was with DD here - though she's back in March. OTOH not having one would very much curtail my job hunting.

Passport hasn't been found. We've looked all lover here, she assures us she's done the same (though not convinced her level of scrutiny is the same standard as mine and her Dads).  Her course doesn't attract funding so she's reliant on what we send her and  what's left of the wages she took with her, which is why she needs work asap. She's calling in this week to ask what alternative documentation they will accept.

DH is working away.  His HO is 100 miles away. He's worked there for part of the week since DD was a baby. Never with any pattern to it, which was a frustration of mine when kids younger as it impacted on what jobs I could apply for as I needed a 'set' time home for childcare reasons until they grew old enough to be home alone. Earlier this year some pressure was put on him to work away more. Due to the 3rd lockdown affecting DD's MH, he put it off till Autumn. So now I'm home alone more with the dog. My parents have invited me to eat with them more which is helping with our grocery bill. I do need to go food shopping soon, but trying to stretch since it's just me with what we have until the end of the week.

Hope some agency work comes along that is closer for you.

Could the passport be somewhere obscure like the pocket of a suitcase? Or has she put it in the inside pocket of a rucksack/handbag. My DD1 tends to carry hers around to prove her age if she buys a drink, so if she mislays it, those inner pockets of bags are the first place we look!

I think it may well be somewhere like that! Unfortunately without going to see her and conducting our own search, we're reliant on her 'I've looked for it'  I'm frustrated beyond belief that she just gave me 'lip service' when I asked it's whereabouts before she left instead of giving me an honest accurate answer at that point!

ID still not found. I want to pay to replace the cheapest, easiest and quickest so DD can take  up her job offer, which is currently being held for her. She is home next week for her half term, so hoping to sort then.

I have done a lot of Xmas shopping so there's been no NSD for a while. I'm happy that 99% of extended family is done (just waiting on a relative's house renovations being completed before being able to buy the final item)

And for what I call 'household members'  DD is almost complete, though I'm struggling far more with DH and DS.

I have a savings account for what I call 'educational expenses' and had to raid that in order for me and DD to go and watch a play that is important to her studies. It's a long play and a long train journey there and back. I think we'll need a good breakfast before going and then a picnic on the way.

I need a grocery shop, though now it is just me and DH and several days a week just me the bill has gone down considerably, helped that sometimes when it's just me I now eat at my parents. Last night from 'nothing in' I was still able to make a beef curry with rice and naan and also had a poppadom with onion, raita and mango chutney. I'm glad I built a store cupboard up it has served me well. Tonight's tea will be sweet and sour chicken. I have everything bar the sauce. Then I will need to do a shop as daughter is vegetarian and I don't have enough in to cater for her.

Talks of mortgage rate rises, makes me incredibly thankful that we are under 18 months away from finishing our offset mortgage and enough savings to offset the balance

That’s that’s so impressive that you have got so much of your Christmas shopping done.

Enjoy the day out with your DD to see the play.

Fantastic position to be in - almost done on Xmas shop - and more important - almost done with your mortgage. My date for that is getting further away...

    Thanks HSL and savingholmes

DD back from drama school for half term. Jeez she cost a fortune the first day and her train didn't arrive here till 2pm. Search for a Halloween costume as hers hadn't arrived and helped her out with the cost of train tickets too to the nightclub event that was in a different city, only for her to find it a flop and come home early! Yesterday was a PJ day so loads cheaper and today will be similar. Tomorrow we have a full day seeing a play that is beneficial for her course. I have told her she has to take the cost of it into account with her  when it comes to her receiving Christmas presents. Thankfully her passport has turned up (at her student flat all along as suspected!) so she can take it in and start her job next week.

We also heard from DS he wanted to borrow a small amount of money due to the bit of online work he does having not paid out at its usual time. His gf is job hunting as she graduated earlier this year.
