Perfume Cost Cutting Article Discussion

I'm all for money saving, in the sense of not spending out more than needs be, and being aware of a bargain. But the article on 'cheap unboxed perfume' really smacked of penny-pinching, rather than money-saving.
I can think of few things more tawdry, unromantic and frankly vulgar than, upon deciding to buy a loved-one scent for Christmas, trawling the internet for some unboxed second which costs a few quid less and putting it in a different box. Perhaps if you were being really 'money-saving', you could fish out an old box from your kitchen cupboards and put it in that: saving you all of £0.00001.
A lot of this advice is useful and sensible, but some of it is distastefully penny-pinching. This seems to be one of those. If one were in the position that a boxed, proper version of scent were too expensive to give as a present, then surely the answer is to chose something less expensive but complete and as it should be, rather than give some 'shop-soiled' good on the promise that 'it's fine, it's just missing the box'. Romantic? Tasteful? I think not.
The fact is, when you go to Boots/Selfridges/wherever and pay the RRP for a perfume, you are paying for the name and the packaging. Personally, I see nothing wrong with purchasing a tester and putting it in a nice gift box. They're not 'a few quid less' either: look at sites like Perfume Plus Direct/Cheap Smells/Fragrance Direct- you're getting a huge percentage off when you buy a tester. They're not 'shop-soiled' either, they're just in plain boxes or don't have a box. FYI, the sites I mentioned sell fully-packaged products too (also at a much lower cost).0 -

I suppose that's up to individual taste then. I'd rather receive a present complete and as it was meant to be, rather than some budget thing (however 'budget' is interpreted') , which makes it obvious that the giver was more concerned with saving every penny they could than just buying a present for someone because they wanted to.

Why not try alternatives to the very expensive named fragrances.
I work for a company called FM Cosmetics, if you Google the company you will find that they manufacture Fragrances in the same perfume families as most of the high street named perfumes, but are much cheaper. The amount of Perfume oil is also higher than your average EDC and EDT. These are sold via distributors and at parties in their own distinct packaging and are NOT copies. The most you would pay is £14.99 for a 50ml bottle of ladies fragrance and £14.99 for 100ml of mens.
If anyone is interested I am happy to send out samples. Email on pjg811@aol.com0 -

Hello,
Just to put my two-pennorth in, I ordered from Fragrance X which I thought was possibly a bit of a gamble but it was pretty much the only website that sold the perfume I was after at a price I could afford. Anyway, the goods arrived yesterday, 2 weeks after I was told they had been dispatched which isn't too bad considering they came from the US. As far as I can tell, the perfume and aftershave I ordered are both genuine (they certainly seem to smell right but I'm no expert on spotting fakes!), and they are exactly what I ordered.
Although my experience with them has been good I would say that if you can find the perfume/aftershave you are after from a UK seller with a decent rep then you should prob order from them as it is likely to be quicker and easier to deal with if any problems. I'm only really posting this to let people know that Fragrance X is legit and not to dismiss it because its not been mentioned on here previously.

Does any reduce perfume in the January sales? I'd like a bottle of Alien (Thierry Mugler) its just for me not a Christmas present or anything so there's no rush to get it but don't want to buy it now only to find it cheaper when the sales start!
Cheapest I've found so far is £21.50 for a 15ml bottle in The Perfume Shop.0 -
