We managed to sign up this morning around 9:30 to their 2 year fixed price deal. I’m guessing they will honour the contract now? We are with Bulb and looking to switch to a fixed rate deal, hoping it’s all ok! We got confirmation emails etc.

for those that think they got in in time to check, the cheaper 2yr fix that has just been pulled was called "2 Year Fix And Reward V18" - that has now changed to V19 (in my area would have added over £400 to the V18 tariff!)
@LunaThyme Looks like you've probably missed the boat.  I signed up yesterday evening to Sainsbury’s 1 Year Fix and Reward v19 in case Symbio go bust this week.  However, this morning it had been replaced by v.20 which was almost £100 more expensive even though I use less electricity than average.  The capped Standard Variable Tariff is now cheaper, although that may change in October.
    Ah balls.

Is anyone able to help me make head or tail of this, as saying "I'm not good with numbers" is an understatement!!!

We're currently on Bulb Vari-Fair (the only tariff they offer I think), £80 per month. App suggests we are using £120 per month though we need to do another meter reading, and we are currently -£16.

    Current unit rates are:

    Electricity 18.00p/kWh
    Gas 3.15p/kWh

New Sainsbury's V19 Tariff fixed for 2 years £139.17 per month

    Electricity  22.595p per kWh
    Gas 4.472p per kWh

So if we stayed on Bulb on the same monthly payment, by April we'd be paying around £102 per month? (+12% then +14%)
If we went up to their suggest monthly usage, by April's increase we'd be on £152 per month? Is that right? (+12 and then +14%)

We moved because we thought Bulb might go bust and we'd be put on a tariff we didn't chose. However I'm wondering whether even with the price cap taken into account we would be better off staying on Bulb? I know they're hoping for news by the end of the week but really not sure whether to cancel Sainsbury's and stay on Bulb?

What's the bulb price after October 1st? It's higher than the one you quote I believe.
Also interesting to note my vari-faor was more expensive than yours, I live in Devon and everything feels more expensive here....sigh

So I found this from their email to us recently

We're increasing our electricity unit rate from 18.897p to 20.860p per kWh and electricity standing charge from 23.501p to 24.007p per day.

We're increasing our gas unit rate from 3.306p to 4.055p per kWh and standing charge from 25.683p to 26.112p per day.

These prices all include VAT at 5%.

From 1 October, based on your usage, we think you'll spend £3.53 more a week on your energy.

So seems in the short term we will be paying more with Sainsbury's, and then who knows what Bulb'll do in April if they're still around. Feels like a gamble on the fixed 2YR tariff we've chosen but maybe best long-term, especially since we don't know if Bulb will stay afloat? I'm still not sure... 😬Thank goodness I have a 14-day cooling off period!

If anyone is able to advise, I'd really appreciate it!

  • Little confused by the V18 vs V19, managed to get a V19 on Monday, but comparing prices it seems a better price than V18. Is This because it’s only a 12 m as below.

  • The standing charge was lower for 12 month compared to 24 months when I looked, but the unit price you have is slightly higher than mine. Given a 7p a day increase in standing charge is only £25 a year, but a 1p per kWh increase in gas price is about £120 for me, the standing charge is less of an issue.
My rates compared to your would see me paying about £10 a year less based on my usage, but about £50 a year more on daily charge, so yours is cheaper. Obviously, in 12 months, you would have to switch, so makes sense for it to be a bit cheaper on the 12 month deal. Who knows what it will be like in a years time.

I got an email from Sainsbury's today saying my switch from PE was definitely happening from the 3rd October so feeling a bit happier that the SoLR isn't going to scupper it. If the worst that happens is that I have to wait a bit longer to get my credit back, it's a price worth paying.

Oh and as we are doing 'show and tell', here's my tariff (am in the south east). Although the standing charges are fairly high, it's a drop in the ocean with our usage...
