Does this mean you can still Direct Debit from a linked account after 1st March? The PO website doesnt make it clear.

    What is a linked account?

you like. It must be a UK personal bank or building society current account in your name(s) that accepts Direct Debits.

A linked account is a current account that we link to your Post Office savings account so you can transfer money safely and securely whenever you like. It must be a UK personal bank or building society current account in your name(s) that accepts Direct Debits.

No, it means currently you can - so until a future date (01/03/2022?) that statement is true.

Anyone else having trouble getting money out of their account? The linked account is not one I wanted and it simply won't let me change it

    Have you followed

How do I change my nominated account?

Simply log in to our online banking service and select 'Change Nominated Account', following the on–screen instructions to change your current nominated account.

Amending your nominated account will require you to set up a new Direct Debit mandate with your new bank account which will take up to 8 business days. You will not be able to make any deposits by Direct Debit or withdrawals during this period.

You can also change your nominated account by downloading the PDF 60 KB Direct Debit mandate (60 KB) and sending it to us at Freepost RSKH–AYTT–CRAB, Post Office Money® Savings, PO Box 87, Armagh, BT61 0BN.

If you had previously set up a regular deposit into your Online Saver account you will need to set this up from your new nominated account. Please follow the step by step instructions in 'How can I save regularly to my Online Saver?'

I've always found it easier to open up a new post office savings account and link my 'preferred ' bank account to that one.You can then easily move money from one PO savings to another to withdraw.
I've tried in the past to change the linked account but have never been successful

  • Back when I used PO for my DDs I had mixed success with changing the linked account online. Sometimes it would work without a hitch and other times I would get error messages saying it couldn't be done at that time and to try again later. Even when it did work I had a few instances where the account would become blocked from being debited (ie. I could deposit money in by DD but then wasn't able to remove it). I'm not 100% sure if it was because of the linked account change, but it never happened to the accounts I didn't change the nominated account for -shrugs- Eventually moved away from PO because of how flaky their systems are.

Well, I set up a DD to be taken today and it was taken. I have now changed the linked account and will request another one-off DD to be taken from that account, if it works it will save me having to move a credit card DD (unfortunately a company screwed up and cancelled a DD from account A in Feb, so I had to move something to A which means account B now needs a DD for March).

I closed all my PO accounts at the end of February, assuming they would no longer be needed.

However the DDs due on 1st and 2nd of March have still been taken  :/ No idea where the money has gone, since once an account is closed it's no longer possible to view it on the PO website.

Hopefully the money will get returned to me eventually. Otherwise I guess I could claim the money back under the DD guarantee. I've now made sure I've cancelled all the remaining PO DDs directly with the relevant banks.

I should have expected that PO would mess this up  :s

    Agreed.

I've withdrawn most of the pittance in mine today but haven't yet closed it. Next DD not due out until 7th so I'll hang fire. Only used now for Co-op so I won't fret over loss of £1pm.
