Money Moral Dilemma: Should I share the cashback I got for booking a holiday with my friends?

  • This one pops up every now and then. My advice is always the same - keep it as you did all the work, and you’ll have all the hassles if someone wants / needs to drop out. As for buying a round of drinks or a meal, that could come to more than the cashback, so it’s a nice idea but keep an eye on the bottom line before treating your can’t-be-bothered / want-someone-else-to-do-it friends.
  • Keep the cashback and keep quiet about the cashback...

  • I wounldn't keep quite about it this time as it will feed your guilt factor. Put it in the pot for drinks this time , but explain your dilemma and see what they would have done. It could tell you a lot about your friends.

Share it out amongst you and your friends. You are only then keeping the cashback/discount on your bit. Keeping your friends discount (because cashback is effectively an inventive to purchase as a marketing discount) is at best a bit disingenuous and at worst you told them the wrong price to pay you after the discount. It's already playing on your mind, imagine one of your friends asking if you used a cashback site. Pay it to them.
  • Definitely keep it. It’s your cashback as you made the transaction so you are not robbing your friends.
If my experience of cashback on holiday transactions is anything to go by, it won’t be actually paid until after your trip so if you do decide to share it do wait until you receive it.
  • You should absolutely keep it. I wouldn't expect any part of it if I was one of your friends.

A difficult one. You did the work, but if they are real friends you should be honest and share cash back.

Treating them to a meal smacks of virtue signalling.

You did the work when no-one else in your group was prepared to.  The £60.00 is yours.
am taking it you pay your credit card in full every month, as otherwise you’d face paying interest on your group holiday booking

Keep it.  If you all booked through a travel agent they would probably have to pay  a hidden included fee of some sort so you,re really just taking on that role. The world is full of people who always want somebody else to do the work for them so that's your  reward for doing so.
  • It’s good you’ve thought about sharing the cashback but you should definitely keep it. In any case you probably won’t even get the cashback until well after the holiday so there’s nothing to share. Someone has suggested you buy a meal whilst on holiday but don’t do that because you might not get the cashback!
