We used to be like that, when the counter top was 5m long on an island at our old house. Once we moved to a smaller house, the machine was out in a cupboard and was going to be got out to use. And just hasn't been. These days we just use a bialetti moka pot and grind the beans in batches as we use them, maybe with a few in the fridgeSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Hi Ed, sending good wishes for labour for Mrs E.
I think you should have a loo in your posh garden room instead of a wee sink.3 -
@Suffolk_lass - we used to have one of the wee Bialettei pots until it got burned - they're not very good for parents with young (distracting) children!
@Alchemilla - DD2 was born 9th May!?I haven't been talking about newborn parent life too much as it has been rather horrific so far. DD2 is a fussy, colic-y child who sleeps very badly unless she has had hours of fresh air and screams inconsolably for reasons known only to herself. She is growing well, but the entire household is running on empty.Today my lottery ticket finished. I'd usually top up my account and pay the same money into my SIPP as a "sin tax", but the SIPP has been diving into the red over recent weeks, so I skipped the lottery. £9.56 paid into the SIPP (£11.95 after tax relief). I didn't want to break the next tenner out of my pocket money account, hence the odd number
Financially, we're at a bit of a low ebb too. A very spendy month in May, all resources allocated for June and weeks 'til pay day. A couple of £ in cashback due and I think I'm due a tenner from YouG0v for letting them harvest my financial data - despite working primarily in data protection I'm under no illusion there's any real risk to open data being abused or that I'm of particular interest to either hackers or the powers that be.8 -
Oh my gosh, CONGRATULATIONS! I must have skipped a page. Pretty big news to miss!
Are she and Mrs E well?6 -
Sorry to hear that sleep is so hard to come by for you all ...
PS that's interesting about the YG data ... I wonder if I made a mistake by turning off all the permissions? Drat!2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
@Alchemilla - Mrs E is exhausted but shrinking (which she is pleased with) and DD2 is prone to screaming, but growing like a weed. Gripe water?
@Karmacat - it's called YG Finance - you'll be allowed to update your preferences and sign up. Basically £5 per account at the moment for letting them analyse your transactions. Plan is to opt out when I make £506 -
Good Lord! Grip water should be renamed projectile vomit water
Not sure whether to try again with a half dose...
£1.87 OPed and £1.87 sent to ISA, a little bit of cashback from TCeeB and Ch@se. I am very grateful for the fact that Vanguard cater for massive skintos like myself, for whom an ISA payment of less than £2 is actually a thing5 -
Is it colic or is she just screaming because it's her job?
This research has a sample size of three, but I found that lying them on their backs and gently lifting them by the thighs so their bottoms just left the surface they're on a few times helped a bit.
Bonus points if you sing a song!4 -
I was going to suggest lying on her stomach & lifting her rear, sample size of only one though. Also try changing her feeding position away from the almost lying down which can constrict the stomach.

@Alchemilla - I have no idea, get the impression "Colic" isn't clearly defined or accepted as a thing. She yells for hours a day, particularly around feeding and is obviously in gastric distress (red face, writhing etc). It's very disheartening
I'm trying the leg raises, used to have to give DD1 tummy rubs to pass gas back in the day!
