Learning to walk before I run

DD has been out with her grandparents since noon, we had our groceries delivered shortly after and I had a very unhealthy lunch (leftover pizza from last night). I then went back to bed for an hour and a half for a nap, where I have most of my bad good ideasWhen I woke up, I remembered that I ordered a couple of cuddly toys and the next Harry P book for DD's birthday last night, so settled up with the CC for those. I also got her a "big sister" card from 3tsy in preparation.I had a £10/£30 offer from Am@zon for using the app for the first time and used that to buy Mrs E some trainers that she had been hankering after since she got her most recent switching bonus - might be worth checking your accounts if you use said website? I also added a couple of items to our Subscribe and Save delivery, including some expensive jelly beans for DD's birthday and a posh box of chocolates as part of Mrs E's mother's day offerings to her mum. I think we've now got all of DD's birthday sorted (2 months early). We're not just freakishly organised, but made the decision to get everything sorted early doors in case DD2 makes an unscheduled early appearance
Having slept on it 3-4 times, I have decided that I will pay off my student loan. I'm also aware that I'm going to have to put in a fair shift at work tomorrow as I lost a week, so sorting this will be my lunchtime treatDD expected back in about an hour, so I will savour sitting on my posterior until then.*Edit: ordered another 96 sachets of the usual expensive wet cat food for Maine Coon kitten. There was an offer on that should have got me double discount, but annoyingly it never took in the app. I will email customer services during the week if it isn't resolved by dispatch. Damn cat who is a kitten for 15 months11 -
Things are sounding good, Ed - perfectly understand your viewpoint, and a lot of good people round here have already made the same decision, always a nice thing to find out.
And now you've got me thinking about the Amazon app, as well as my bank's app. Bit of homework there for me. Enjoy the evening with DD.2023: the year I get to buy a car7 -

What a difference a day makes
Went "in" to work absolutely dreading it, 4 intractable pieces of work hanging around my neck like millstones. Managed to get rid of 2 of them, a third out for approval and a way forward for the 4th. Not bad considering I am a squeaky voiced post-Covid loon with a runny nose! I am obviously applying my soft powerAlso a fabulous day for finances:- £3,996.06 paid off my Student Loan, which is now gone. It has been 15 years since I finished my Postgraduate qualification, several of which I spent trying to avoid repaying my student loan and I can't quite believe it. As I get paid in 3 weeks, I fully expect them to take at least one additional payment by mistake, but I'm told I can claim a refund on the 'phone for this
- £437.36 paid off CCs (S@insbury's take the DD payment no matter how much you pay off your bill during the course of the month and £200 towards my smaller CC, which will be fully paid off by Sunday
By my current reckoning, we have enough left in savings accounts to spend £35k on a loft conversion, pay off all unsecured debts, cover reduced income during mat leave and have about £4-5k left over for an EF. That's great, but it definitely motivates me to save more and see what else we can save from the budget. What's also great is that my 13th wage (May) will actually be "free" money, with no prior claim against it.13 -
What a fantastic post ed! Well done!
I'm all in favour of freeing up cash flow and not paying interest - it's my pet hate!. I've just done a quick scoot round accounts here and anything stock market related is miserable (chants; long haul, long term, omm) but cash in hand has actually grown since retirement and paying off our last debt (mortgage).Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Well done Ed!
You really don't mess around once you've set your mind to something! I, as someone that tends to drag my feet on even the smallest of decisions, am most impressed 🙂7
