Lots of interesting swimming posts, thanks to all for the interesting stories and the support 🙂
Two incoming financial posts!
- £237.18 to Extension (virement from remaining Groceries and Pets budgets for the month). More to come if Mrs E doesn't fully empty the Children budget at the cat café!
- £1.86 to Emergency Fund
- £13.44 withdrawn from Prolific, £5.64 to tax, rest to personal spends
- £0.77 to personal cash savings
- Nominal savings interest at weighted average rate of 4.38% added to Home Maintenance, Extension, Tax, Personal Cash Savings and Personal Spends accounts. This is my chosen method of not losing interest into the black hole that is our budget!
- 34 days of meter readings provided, we are now at -£110 😕 I am going to start tracking our energy usage and solar on a monthly basis, see if I can reduce usage a bit. Nothing radical, 5% would be a good start.

Month end figures are in! 📶
- NW up by £5,470.02 (DB pension, SIPPs, cash in hand).
- Strict NW up by £2,892.46, i.e. more portable money and investments. This one pleases me more as it shows an improving cash position.
- Not bad for a measly savings rate of c. 12%.
Very pleased with that - almost double last month's improvement, more than 20x that of November!

@edinburgher - I'm curious about your meter readings - does your company allow you to be in the red? - ours does not even stand for being under one month's worth of payment in credit before messing up the DD

We're with Mollusc. Tend to go into the red for Jan/Feb, then improving picture for rest of the year. They occasionally suggest a higher DD (for example, the app suggested adding £8/mth today, which I have done). They've never insisted on any kind of catch-up/mandatory DD increase 🤷🏻♂️

Definitely admire the swimming lessons—first world problems, but I do wonder if they'd give me the confidence to do things like e.g. try scuba diving on holiday.

following the interest in the s&tander cashback offer, I have a few refer a friend codes for chase if any of you are interested. £50 each for us both if you open a saver or current account and transfer in £1000 within 30 days.
Whilst I find their app terribly laggy, their debit card is zero fees in most countries abroad and I like their saving spaces for sinking funds.
