No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

OS Grocery Challenge in 2026 I am sticking with a £3000 annual budget for 2026 - currently £1111.79 and most of my May purchasing made
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the grow your own in 2026 discussion thread

3) Mortgage neutral by 06/30 (AVC £42.5K + Lump Sums DB £4.6K + (25% of SIPP 1.7K) = 48.8K of £127.5K target 38.3% 24/5/26 (If took bigger lump sum = 71.K or 55.9%)
4) FI Age 60 income target min £17.1/30K 57% (may need more) If bigger lump sum £15.8/30K 52.67%
5) SIPP £5.7K updated 29/5/264 -
In a truly bizarre and devastating end to the year, Mrs E's dad passed away today after a very short illness. He was only 69. Mrs E is beside herself and thoroughly shocked.6

That is so awful ed. My Dad's birthday was the 20th December, and his loss, like your FiL, after a short illness (pancreatic cancer, diagnosed 12 days before he died) is always with me at Christmas. Girls and their Dads? it's a unique bond and I really feel for Mrs E.
