I am interested in how to spend the money on something else as UsetheForce suggested, how do I do that ?

    Sorry for your loss.

Here is a list of some well-known charities that accept donations by text. Doesn't claim to be complete but may be of interest.

Thank you to those who suggested ways of spending it. I prefer to donate it all to charities than let that lot have it for nothing :)
To those who feel it is ok ( and you do) for any company to take money off people who have deceased by some small print excuse, shame on you.
Well said - you have dealt with some harsh posts on this thread with decorum. You have simply made the mistake of hoping that companies have a moral compass - alas they often don't.  That said, while it may (sometimes) be true that contracts have no clauses about bereavement (I actually believe many do), it is not foolish to hope that regardless the company will act honourably.

As for the change to terms, again my moral compass suggests to me that they should offer a refund - if you buy credit on the available information, then should the company wish to vary the terms substantially, they should offer a refund.
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

Hi, newbie here so be nice

I just happened across this thread whilst looking for a SIM for our house alarm.

From experience I would like to say I think it was probably the best deal, I've not been able to find anything under £30 a year that doesn't get cut off when you least expect it.

Assuming the original poster's father was elderly, the last thing you need to worry about is forgetting to make the one chargeable call every three months if the only reason for the SIM is in case of emergency. Yes making a call isn't hard to do, but, sometimes that's the last thing on your to-do list.
I've had EE and O2 drop service to SIMs because I forgot to make a call using our house alarm (harder than it actually sounds without breaking in) they are just the same with outstanding credit but they deactivate after 3/6 months. (Interesting story about EE spam I won't go into here !)

OP - sorry for your loss and I think that sending the remaining credit to charity is lovely.

So if naming and shaming them is all I have left..so be it, whoever else does the same is not doing it to me, so they can take the flak at the moment..I am thinking of some very effective " headlines" at the moment.

As stated already. You can’t moan at 1p Mobile if they’re sticking to their Terms and Conditions. Is it harsh? Probably. Is it morally wrong for them to refuse a refund? Possibly. Is it legally wrong? Absolutely not.

Valuable lesson here. Read the networks rate card and also read the Terms and Conditions whilst you’re there.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I'm a low user and 1p mobile does have a usefuly facility for individuals in my position, the details on their site says

Use credit to extend your top-up date

You can use £10 of your credit to extend your next top-up due date by 120 days.

It doesn't mean you save or lose money but if does mean that it helps in not building up large credit.

If  you want a pay as you go SIM that doesn't cost much, take a look at RWG who do a 2 year SIM with included calls, texts and data for £35 which works out at about £1.50 per month.

Where on their site does it say that?
I was sure they removed that option from their t&c's over a year ago.

Section 3 of current t&c's (for customers not subject to £2.50 per month roundup)

      2. If you fail to top-up by the next top-up due date (which is shown in your account area),
        1. we will close your 1pMobile account,
        2. your mobile number will be disconnected,
        3. and any unused credit will be lost.
        4. If you have ported a mobile number to us then the number will be returned to the issuing network provider and may not be retrievable.
