1p Mobile.....can they do this ?
Options
I took out a sim with 1p mobile which seemed reasonable at first but then 2 things happened.
First of all they changed the contract terms which now allow them to take my money if I don't spend it according to their new rules.
I contacted them and asked them to cancel it all and just refund me my balance, which is over £100, they said they would cancel but make no refund

Two weeks ago my father for who I got another sim passed away, again I contacted them and asked them to close the account and make a refund...they refused any refund..again.
So they are making money from my dead father now ???
What can I do to try and sort this out, life has been very busy but most of the organisations I have had to deal with have been very good with me...but 1p Mobile...just awful

1p Mobile is PAYG. PAYG you always pay up front and if you don't use it, you lose it (so unless you are a key active and relatively heavy user you should never keep a vast sum of credit on it (for most PAYG £10-£20 is more than enough). Section 7 of T&Cs: "You will not be entitled to a refund in respect of any unused credit held on your account under any circumstances, except where you have notified us that you wish to cancel your account within 14 days of application."Providers can and always have had ability to change T&Cs on a whim.6

So there is absolutely nothing I can do then ?Apart from public naming and shamiing, I cant see how taking money for my just passed father is moral0

It's simply based on the contract terms. They're not naming or shaming anyone and contracts are typically agnostic to bereavement.4

Use the phone to buy something with the credit.I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.
Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!0 -

If you don't use it, why have £100 in your account?
Providing these services cost money. Networks need to make money to pay for it.4 -

Ok, thank you for the replies, so if I understand correctly, they can take the money, they can also change the original contract, which they have done, and not be in any way responsible for that ? ( such as having to cancel and refund if I want that)I am interested in how to spend the money on something else as UsetheForce suggested, how do I do that ?Yes, its actually very easy to build up a lot of credit with them if you don't use it very often. It seems to me they have devised the perfectly legal conjob !As for taking my deceased fathers money, that is just disgraceful, whatever it says in their contract ( that would be the one they can change any time to suit themselves it seems ?)So if naming and shaming them is all I have left..so be it, whoever else does the same is not doing it to me, so they can take the flak at the moment..I am thinking of some very effective " headlines" at the moment.I hardly see how my father can now use it...do you ?0
