After happily using the Chase app for over a year, it has suddenly asked me to prove my ID. By taking a photo of other passport or driver licence, then taking a selfie. At this I failed, apparently. Twice. And so I accepted their offer to "have it reviewed, which may take several hours". During which time I can't use the app.
Apart from being inconvenient for me, I wonder what folk who don't have either document would do?

Proving your ID is a prerequisite of getting an account in the first place. We all had to do it. Folk who don't have an acceptable photo ID document would be unable to complete registration for an account. My experience was it took 5 or 6 attempts to get an acceptable photo.
It is now necessary to re-verify ID any time you reinstall the app, clear its data, or register it on a new device.

... or experience a crash (hieroglyphics in the app) requiring a reboot. It is possible for a CS agent to request 'no re-registration required', as in my case also having experienced several mismatches, before succeeding.

Anyone else on Android has this problem?

I talked to their CS and they said it's a problem on their end and are "working hard on fixing it". That was 2 days ago. Still not working. I tried to force-stop the app as they told me, I cleared the cache, later even cleared all data and had to re-submit my ID and log in again. Nothing has helped so far.

The app is 2.6.0 version which is the latest one, correct?

    Mine (Android) says version 2.7.1

Debit Card Cashback on TV Licence

Does anyone have experience of getting cashback using the Chase debit card to pay for a TV licence (in 1 year £159 payment?)
I checked the exclusions, and wondered if TV Licence could get classified as 'Government Services.' I asked Chase, thinking they might be familiar with such a common institution/payment. No idea, they just copied & pasted the MCC blurb at me. 🤷‍♂️

I'm beginning to dislike the Chase app for a number of reasons, but their cash back and interest is a really strong incentive to stay!
    Things I like:
    1% cash back on spending
    1% interest on current account
    3.3% interest on savings account
Very easy to move money between both accounts.

    Things I dislike
1)Not connected to open banking, so I can't track my spending in MoneyHub
    2) I can't see at a glance how much money I've got in total across the 3 accounts (current, savings, round up) and have to add these up manually (they used to give you the full total)
    3) Counting round up movements as expenditure
    4) Not being able to see my bank balance on a particular day in the near past (eg I do a month end budget during the following month, and need to know my bank balance on the last day of the previous month)
    5) I can't get a download of my expenses for the monthly budget - I have to type them into an excel spreadsheet manually from the phone.  I don't want to include the round ups nor the transfers I make into other accounts.
    6) The search function is rubbish.  I have some business expenses that I need to go back up to 14-15months to track.  But only some transactions appear in the search (eg the search showed me 3 transaction in the last year to an account that I pay twice a month

A lot of these issues would be solved with connection to MoneyHub using open banking.

Overall I'm finding it very time consuming to manage my finances with them.
So I've opened an Amex credit card with 5% cash back on spending for 3 months.  I'll only use Chase for spending where Amex isn't taken.
I'm not eligible for either the First Direct sign up bonus now the Natwest one, so there really isn't a better bank account for me at the moment.
