We have a large fish aquarium which takes forever to clean. I have to keep one eye on the fish, which I put in a large bucket and the other eye on our cats. At the very end of one of the cleans, as I was getting ready to put the fish back in the tank after giving my hands a wash, I saw our youngest with his paws on the edge of the bucket and you've guessed it, he tipped the bucket over with the fish flapping about
. Carpet was soggy for a good few weeks even with CH and fan heaters. Fish were fine thankfully. Cats get kicked outside now when cleaning tank. Still love them all to bits.

We keep fish too, and cleaning the tanks is definitely a two person job - one to entertain and wrangle the cats.
I don't think they've done anything too naughty, but one is totally addicted to thrive treats and the levels she will go to for them is quite amazing. They're currently on the second shelf of an IKEA kallax storage unit (the boxy one) in a fabric drawer, with a chair in front of the unit to stop the draw being opened, in a plastic tub, with other treats on top. She's still managed to wiggle a paw in, open them and spill them all over the drawer.
I don't mind too much, as its easy to get her to run to you from anywhere in the house by opening the drawer - and her hearing is excellent, she is able to differentiate the sound from identical drawers with other things in!5 -
Amazing how clever they are. My cats help me to relax, my two wee boys (most of the time)1

Found a dead mouse in the washing machine. Cats must have brought it in from the garden and dumped it in the basket.
Come on you Irons2 -

We found a tiny kitten on the roadside one day 12 years ago. She had a sore eye and we took her to the vet. Then we took her home. She has always been feisty but one day a few years ago had to go to the vet, as they do. I'd asked to see a lady vet but no ladies were available apparently. So we had to see a man who asked me to hold her head while he examined her. But our lovely kit was having none of it. She sank her teeth into my right hand and wouldn't let go for ages! Probably only a minute or two but felt like forever. When she did let go, blood spurted out of my hand and I had to bundle a terrified kit back in her carrier, rush to take her home and then to the hospital for a tetanus jab and treatment for cat bites. The medic I saw wasn't best pleased, don't think she liked cats. Our cat didn't receive any treatment that day. But I did. That's the worst thing she's ever done. And I think that's enough to be going on with! She's an indoor cat, too. We've owned a few cats in the past who were allowed outside and, without fail, each one had a RTA.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. We had two pairs of cats, one set of brothers and one set of sisters (same mother for all of them, no idea about the fathers as their mother's owner was slow about getting her neutered).
The male cats were mischievous and liked to steal things such as wallpaper samples, the thermometer from the fish tank (it was in the bucket of water we were preparing to put in the tank) a bag of cat treats, my watch and a number of other things. They also used to bring us "gifts", usually frogs from the pond in the garden.
The female cats were just destructive. They wrecked a divan bed and a sofa amongst other things (but both were old and needed replacing). They also used to bring presents, usually dragonflies, birds and rodents that were then released and left for us to catch. One rat ended up in the cavity of the wall (we were having the door replaced and the rat shot into the hole left by the removal of the door and was never seen again.
They used to enjoy playing with the sealing rings from the tops of milk bottles. They used to end up under the fridge and we found about 50 of them when we moved the fridge to clean behind it. They also loved toys on elastic. My husband attached one to the top of the bannister, rather than leave it on the stairs were the cats had abandoned it, as he went to bed, thinking that it would save someone a fall in the night. He got up the next morning, started to walk past the stairs on his way to the bathroom, glanced down into the stairwell, saw the cat at the bottom of the stairs with the toy, realised that the toy was still attached to the bannister ,(yes, it has stretched that far), stepped back just before there was a loud "BANG!" as cat released the toy, which hit the window at the top of the stairs. It was like a gunshot going off!
But the worst thing was the destruction of soft furnishings. But that's what cats do. Loved those cats to bits, lots of happy memories of them.1 -
We had a big black tom cat. Got it from the local RSPCA at 6 months old.
His naughty bits were:-
Climbing up the full length curtains in the lounge, along the curtain pole and sliding down the other side.
He thought the nice leather chairs in the lounge was his scratching posts .
And don't get me started on Christmas. Putting the tree up and decorating with the usual shiny balls, he thought the balls were a pretty punch bag and quite regularly one whent flying across the lounge.
One day we came home from work and the tree was flat on the floor (thereafter we anchored the tree to the wall)3 -
We were adopted by a lovely friendly cat when we moved into our first house. He belonged to the neighbours but he wasn't very pleased that they had several very young children. They soon moved out with the mother expressing relief that he wasn't interested in moving with them so he became ours.
Fast forward a couple of years and he kept disappearing and then coming home very greasy. Turned out he'd found a nice napping spot by climbing in to the bottom of another neighbour's very old caravan that was slowly leaking oil. Later when he ended up being diabetic and supposedly on a diet he would go and talk to an elderly chap across the road who was convinced he was a stray. Chap started roasting chicken to feed our "starving" cat. I ended up having a chat about the fact that the silly cat was on meds and wasn't coming home to get his injections because he wasn't hungry at dinner time!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
