I'd much prefer Santander to have an additional 'nickname' field. However, since I already have a spreadsheet with details of all my accounts, it's trivially easy to add the payee reference number to that. The numbers are invariant, that is they don't change when payees are added or deleted.Stompa1

I'm surprised by this. Many accounts will not be able to send £25k in a single transfer. You countered with: "My accounts allow me to send £25k with a single transfer.", which I took to mean you don't see it as a problem because it doesn't affect you personally. If I've misunderstood, please clarify your position on organisations requiring large deposits to be made via a single faster payment transfer with no flexibility offered to those who are not able to do so?0

Problem solved.Yes, I opened a current account with Tesco Bank who have a fully implemented CoP system with the the required optional additional field they call "Nickname". This worked fine, but a month or so ago Tesco notified all customers that all current accounts will be closed by November.Santander & Halifax could solve their problem by purchasing Tesco's proper implementation of CoP!
Tesco Bank included nicknames in its online banking functionality when its current accounts were launched in 2014, whereas CoP is a much more recent initiative, necessitating the agreement of a new protocol for communication between participating institutions, but, beyond mandating how they should present the results back to the customer at the time of validation, to the best of my knowledge there is nothing specified about how each institution's online banking handles ongoing management of payee records.
So, kudos to Tesco by all means for having the foresight to implement nicknames (likely to be easier when launching a bank of course) and it undoubtedly comes into its own when CoP is (separately) launched, but it's false to suggest that others' implementation of CoP is somehow flawed or deficient by virtue of not introducing something unrelated that they weren't required to add, so they're not "making a mockery" out of anything....6 -

If an organisation is not doing something you want them to and someone else is, stop doing business with them and do it with someone else.
Moaning on an internet forum will do nothing.8 -

If I've misunderstood, please clarify your position on organisations requiring large deposits to be made via a single faster payment transfer with no flexibility offered to those who are not able to do so?I have not at any time disputed that. I have merely pointed out that not everyone is so lucky and it is not really fair of an institution to place such a barrier in the way of those who cannot move such a sum in a single transfer, so I am surprised that an organisation would insist on such a restrictive condition. You quoted that reply and responded to it. If your response is a mere statement of fact, then I fail to see the relevance. I did not state that nobody could do such a transfer. Like account nicknames, some banks would support such a payment and some would not.0

But the "issue" is blown out of all proportion, anyway.0
