Ok thank you its just i came in here for advice but i feel ive spent more time trying to establish who is at fault, b and q store manager admitted it was there design error i have had a full refund of the kitchen they have offered me a small amount in compensation, i dont think what they have offered is justified as the first date they was supposed to collect it they didnt turn up also a waste of a day, the question i asked originally is if i wanted to escalate this where would i go to do this?

The retail ombudsman.  Good luck with it.

You have a full refund plus some compensation.   I doubt that anyone is going to agree that B&Q should pay for your upgrading of the kitchen to a better one by a competitor, or to pay for the fitting of a kitchen that wasn't fitted

Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I don't think you are going to get the answer you are looking for on this section but you could always try posting on the Consumer Rights section as that gets looked at by several that know the full ins and outs of Consumer Law (no offence meant to DG or Rosa). I don't think you'll get much joy there either but do make your initial post quite clear as to what has happened and how you have calculated the £4k as most of the posts on here have been trying to clarify exactly what has happened and why it has cost you £4k.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

    Hi Adam.
Sorry if I was a bit blunt in my first reply.
I think you have got your answer; B&Q messed up with their measurements. They have taken the kitchen back, and refunded you. That's - I'm pretty sure - is as far as their liability goes.
They have also offered you a sum in compensation for your inconvenience. That's pretty good of them.

Do you really think that they also owe you the balance for a more expensive kitchen since they seemingly cannot provide the one you need? I can't see how, since they were seemingly never going to be able to supply the right kitchen, so you'd always have had to go for the alternative.
Do they owe you for the skip? Not really - again, you'd always have needed this, and it has presumably done its paid-for job?
Do they owe you for the seemingly lost fitting cost? Again, no, since it's always been the recommendation that the customer should check over their received order before arranging installation. I'd be astonished if B&Q don't also have this recommendation - I've seen it many a time on others. Why? Because, it's very common for a part to be missing or received damaged or, as in your case, the wrong size.

(I'm confused by the larder unit height, tho'. Are B&Q's really taller than others? In any case, there is almost always an element of customisation very possible, with the larder sides being cut down and a smaller door(s) fitted.)

I payed for a skip that went i now need to get another one when the kitchen comes £250 cost to me, i sold my oven as it was a range and i had a new cooker coming left me with no oven so i had to buy a new temp oven to cook food £100 cost to me, i have to now pay a fitter £1660 cost to me,ordering a howdens kitchen £2000 extra cost to me, now if the designer would have designed it correctly with the measurements given i would not of had to pay a single £ of these costs
Why do you need another skip?  I thought your kitchen was stripped bare?

You utilised the skip then surely?

It is always bad advice to get rid of anything until your new replacements arrive.  There have been lots of people on these boards who made the mistake of selling their bed before the new one arrives, it is bad practice.

so another 2000 on an identical kitchen,
Hopefully it is not identical or there will be an identical thread when it is delivered.

B&Q offer two heights of units on SOME of their kitchens. I had to compromise on the style I wanted as DH wanted "to the ceiling" units. He had sound reasons for this, so that stuff couldn't be put on top of the units. Now it's fitted, I'm really pleased that he decided on that height as they look better than having a gap between the kitchen units and the ceiling.

Standard height is 2160mm, tall is 2340mm.

I've just been looking at the order information from when B&Q designed our kitchen earlier this year, the height of the cabinets is given, as was the height of the ceiling (but measured by us). We had a list of every part ordered, down to the cooker unit filler panels and trims and the hinges for the doors. We also had a plan of the kitchen from every view: sides and birds' eye, which included all of the measurements of all of the units/doors/plinths/gaps at the corners.

We had this plan and a 3d picture it doesnt give heights of unit on this, i kept the sink, and a fridge so yes i need a skip again, also i did wait until delivery until i stripped then put it together and it was wrong, no i dont think they are going to pay extra for me to buy one elsewhere you asked me to explain why it cost me 4k so i have, i left this out originally as i knew they would not pay that but i still had to pay it. I get i would always of needed a skip but now i need 2 another for the fridge and sink unit i kept in till last.

I don't think you are allowed to put fridges in a skip - double check. Our local council charges £30 to take them.
