B and q kitchen

Options
Hi i have had problems with b and q kitchen we gave correct measurements but the designer gave us to high larder units that did not fit, they did not have the correct ones so refunded us, however the knock on effects of this have left us with a 4k bill and no kitchen for 2 months, i was fitting it myself but now have to pay for it to be fitted at 1660, b and q offered a good will of £450 vouchers which i cant use to pay the fitter and £350, can anybody help me please on who I escalate this to outside of b and q. Thanks

They didn't do a measured survey?

Don't the terms and conditions give you ultimate responsibility for checking what you're buying?  That's often the case if they're not measuring.

How do you end up with a £4k bill?  You were fitting it but now someone else is?  How is that B&Q's fault?

If you'd had a professional on site at the start, they could probably have ripped the units down for you and you just waited for the doors.

Escalate for what? As project manger it was up to you to check things.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

    Hi Adam.
You are competent enough to fit a kitchen, but not to check the measurements on the plan?
Surely, when you looked at kitchens, especially the ones you had presumably shortlisted, you knew the heights of their tall housings? Are B&Q larders taller than other makes? Is your kitchen lower? (I presume it is, in which case you would surely have been double-checking what's available?)
Anyhoo, if I have got any of that wrong, then call up the Legal Protection helpline on your house insurance. They'll soon tell you if you have a case.

I replied soon after the OP, expecting a fairly quick reply.  Sometimes there's story missing and an OP can be quick to fill in detail.  It might have read harshly, but I toned down my own personal experience.  If you provide measurement to kitchen companies without a measured survey, it's on you.

I couldn't incur a £4k loss if I tried on an unfitted kitchen.

I also couldn't get Apple to waive a £62.50 fee for a repair on a £700 watch today, so if the OP can get £800 from B&Q who don't have the best CS record, they're doing alright.

I've signed that many waivers, kitchen companies won't take responsibility for anyone else's measurements.

Yes so i gave correct measurements and the plan was correct as in fitment width and length, the plan doesnt state the hight of the units, the plan was good the measurements were correct however the units were to tall this height of units was not given to us on the plan so how to we check this before we buy. They were given the correct height and gave a 3d plan of it all fitting yet the units were to tall and would not fit they did not have the correct panels that did fit so refunded us the money as the store even said it was there fault, now they changed it and are blaming us

They're not entirely blaming you if they're giving you £800.

I don't understand the £4,000 loss or how an incorrect delivery causes you to not be able to DIY the units anymore.

What is it that you now want to claim?  What were their terms & conditions?

There must be more than a 3D plan, if there isn't then maybe that's why they're offering you something.

Yes they gave us a 3d picture and the 2d plan but we was not given any other info other than that they designed it on our measurements that were correct, if we measured it wrong then yes i would take full responsibility but they have refunded us for the kitchen because they could not supply the correct size cabinets or tells us when they were available and our house was unliveable.

They will never take responsibility for that.  Every contract known to man says never to book labour before full delivery is taken.

In the real world it doesn't work all that well but they've been through this so many more times than you have, there's no way they've left you open to claim for that.

Tradespeople love Howdens and Benchmarx for a reason.  They work to deadlines and those companies offer almost zero lead times and almost instantaneous swaps.

But if you'd have had a pro in from that start,
they'd have made your delivery work.

If they can't supply the kitchen at all now, that explains the compensation,
but you must have agreed to some t&c's
on a supply only contract. They cannot be held responsible for fitting when it was never part of the contract.
