Niv said:Have you considered a futon? That way you have it as seating in there most of the time then its a bed of the occasions its needed. Also takes up less space than a bed and doesn't look like a bed so would compliment your room better.

This is what is doing in there which will fit in with the look I am looking for.1 -
Doozergirl said:No one needs a spare room that is a spare room all of the time.I'm so over it. Make a space that belongs to your family all of the time. After that, think about where guests might sleep. We had friends this weekend. We gave them and their kids our room and ensuite because it was the best use of space. We have a bigger than average house now but it's designed for us to use every day as a family (meaning less bedrooms than any normal
person would attribute to the space) but I'm satisfied constantly by using ALL of the space that we own on a daily basis. And our friends said they felt guilty but they really relished having the best room in the house, not the worst!! It's a win:win. We've had much smaller houses with rooms dedicated to nothing. It's completely wrong! It was fine to sleep elsewhere in my own house for two nights. You guys take the sofa or the king size sofa bed when guests visit. And reap the benefit of an entire house used EVERY DAY!!! 💪🏼Don't compromise every day. When I read this post earlier this morning it was like being slapped around the face with a wet fish - it woke me up! Such clarity of thinking was brilliant. I have a spare bedroom which is hardly used as such. Maybe it's down to COVID but even beforehand visitors were rare, probably because I'm living in such a rural / faraway place, or maybe because I really don't like visitors staying with me!I spent a long time thinking about what I could do with the space instead and got very excited. Then I realised that I am now retired - no need for an office - and don't have hobbies which require a room so removing the bed would make it even more redundant. However... I will really look at removing the bed and bedside table and re-think the usage. Thanks Doozer for the wake-up call.6 -

Ive got a single day bed with a trundle underneath, Its my oldests bed at the mo but shes getting a king in a few weeks. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.2 -
Loving this thread! I would go with a sofa bed too although I do love the wall beds.
I was going to suggest that you sell it to hubby as a storage solution ie all yours and the girls clothes, products, make up etc will be stored in the room so he will have more space in the bedroom/bathroom but I see he's been told!1 -

Not a fan of the wall bed idea myself (think it's ugly - sorry to the poster who has one!) - I much prefer either the daybed with trundle or sofa bed....
We previously had a futon (a supposedly decent one from the Futon Company) but I hated it and the few occasions it was used it wasn't terribly comfortable as a place to sleep...and not a relaxing sofa either, imho.
Definitely agree that there's no point having beds in all rooms that won't be regularly slept in, although people's circs may vary. We used to own a fairly large house (3500 sq ft) with six bedrooms spread over the upper floors and only three bedrooms had actual beds - one for me and DH, one for DS and another for when my parents stayed over (couldn't expect them to sleep on the futon!). The fourth was our *music* room (with futon), the fifth was DS's *entertaining space* for his mates, whilst the sixth was our office.
Our next house had five bedrooms, but only two were on the upper floor and only those two had beds - the second being for DS and his GF when they were home from uni etc 😎 The remaining three bedrooms on the ground floor were utilised in the same way as previously. In addition we had three further reception rooms so the others were actual (or at least potential) bedrooms. When we sold the house it was to a family with multiple kids so all those five bedrooms were used as such and they still had three receptions, although they did knock through the kitchen into one.
In our current - considerably smaller - house, we do keep a bed in a spare room....so I've somewhere to get away from DH snoring/, the dogs taking up my half of the super king bed, lol 😂

Told him if they come down they can sleep in my kingsize bed.
They wont come tho1 -
I may regret asking this but do you have a link for a single day bed that can be converted to a king size bed?
Funnily enough, we are converting a smallish storage into an alcove so my OH can use the area as a dresser thingy.0
