That is a nice view of the crooked church spire in Chesterfield.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Any chance of seeing that from the eyeline of a driver. not a pedestrian?

There's two cars in that pic who don't seem to have any issues seeing the amber light that's just visible through the leaves.

The road marking to show the traffic light stop line is also clearly visible in that pic, so it's not as if you didn't know there was a traffic light.
Mse's number one victim blamer strikes again.

That might be difficult without standing crouched in the middle of the road
Drive the road with a camera strapped to the side of the head of the driver in exactly the right position, remotely aactivated by the passenger of course (got to be safe).
It's important Adrian C can investigate all avenues of "I can't see how you didn't notice" blablablabla

Whereas the rest of us see that the overgrowth is pretty bloody shocking.

Blimey, yes I didn't recognise it for a start but I used to walk down that road every day 30-ish years ago. ISTR there was a zebra crossing there then!

This is a side view of the lights on Google streetview from Nov 2020, is the device on the right hand pole a camera??

Possibly, but it's not a red light camera. Apart from anything else, it's in the wrong place.

If gilly is going to make a serious defence out  of "the lights are obscured" - then it does have to be as accurate as possible.
Whereas the rest of us see that the overgrowth is pretty bloody shocking.
Comparing the Google View with the recent photo - it's obvious that the tree is the problem.   There is a third repeater light but that's just a little ahead on the right-hand side so both would possibly be hidden by a large vehicle.  Back track a little to the mini-roundabout and you'll see it.  So if traffic is busy, you could join at the roundabout and then have your view of the two right-hand lights obscured by traffic and the left-hand one by the tree thus not getting a clue until the road markings.
I need to think of something new here...

No. It measures the levels of traffic.

Ironically it looks like a set of lights has been removed to install that monitoring device.

I’d report the lights to the Council. It is certainly obscured.
