I think I have seen on their web that by signing up to fixed tariff with them you are agreeing to smart meter- so that was ultimate deal breaker for me.
That's the case with most suppliers.

Do keep a close eye on your bills when you get them - I think you've made an expensive decision.
I’m quite new to this. I hope it will work out.
this is my average monthly summer bill so you see that my daily usage is about 30%. I think night usage should significantly increase in winter once storage heaters are on?

  • And this is first bill I have from Orbit from spring when I think I had the small storage heater still on, maybe not whole month, I don’t know, but April was still cold.

Your calculations are correct but you should have chosen a fixed tariff rather than variable, regardless of whether it requires a smart meter installation to be agreed. Prices are going to rocket.

Make sure that the registers aren't swapped over, or there could be a nasty case of bill shock coming down the tracks !
Take readings in the morning and again in the afternoon and make sure that only the reading billed at day rate is the one that has increased.

There's no golden rule, it's pot luck which one applies in each individual case.  Turn on the kettle, the immersion heater, the tumble dryer etc and see which register increases.
  • Indeed - I like them even less now - bring on the point where a switch is viable.

  • Ok - as this seems to be the most recent UW thread…

    Couple of questions:
Anyone else with them on Economy 7 electric having issues getting the app to accept the meter readings? I’ve entered several sets of readings since we switched to them a couple of months back, but so far our bills have come in with charges raised for the standing charge only, and the readings I have entered have been converted to “00000”, which is massively unhelpful. Finally yesterday I managed to get readings accepted through the website, and this time I actually have a confirmation email, but it would be a faff having to do it that way every time rather than what should be the straightforward route via the app.

Second - we made an additional payment to them a month ago, using the details shown by them for making payments  and our account number as reference as directed, but it’s not showing as applied to the account. The bank details checked out through my online banking and the payment is showing as having been sent. It’s not a huge amount - just over £70 that we were owed by Bulb following our final bill from them, but we were keen to get it transferred back to set off against the winter’s power use, and we anticipate having to make more top-up payments during the winter on this too, having joined UW just as it starts to get cold and not having built up any credit. Again, does anyone else have experience of how long they take to apply payments like this to the account?

I have to say that so far I’m finding them incredibly user-unfriendly. No way of seeing the account balance online, and having to wait for the monthly statement is frustrating, and when you call for advice the number of “Don’t know” answers you seem to get back from their operatives is far from ideal.
