im operating with these annual estimates day 1.600 and night 6400. S2 supply area.
Are you sure you did the calculations right? I hope you didn't input your details into the website and go by what they said the monthly cost would be?
Every comparison I've done (for multiple households) UW have never been anywhere near the cheapest and they charge higher rates and then justify it by offering "discounts" for other services and cashback on spending which you can get with other cards anyway.
im estimating annual usage as
day 1,600
night 6,400
the unit price they give is 27.665 for day
and 7.560 for night for variable Value tariff.
comes up 1,007 per year.I don’t have exact data for my annual usage as I wasn’t taking readings and my heating and boiler was set up incorrectly so this is my best projection.0 -
Your day use prediction is quite low - normally closer to 3,000. I suggest you read your meter (at least the day usage) daily for the next week. - your heating won't be on yet to get a proper indication of that.
By "boiler" I assume you mean immersion heater - you haven't got gas have you.?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

- if split 50% : 50% (4000kWh and 4000kWh) the annual cost would be £1409

@Dahliaa Yes if you use 80% at night UW does come out on top. But it's really the average 42% that £1000 becomes nearly £1600 and UW is easily beaten.
I see you were with Orbit - their bill will show an estimated annual consumption so (unless all the bills were estimated) there's no need to guess.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thank you guys.
my previous year annual consumption was about 8000.
I’m just trying to project the split between day and night and as you said 80% is high.
last year my boiler was set to heat on daily circuit, same for the main storage heater which was going on as convector all winter long. I didn’t know about this. I know better now.
Currently in the summer I’m using about 1/3 in day and2/3 in nights- assuming that’s the boiler..
I don’t expect major change in my daily usage when winter comes, I’m doing the same activities at home, so only increase can come only in the night once storage heater is working properly.
So I took the 8000 overall and substrated estimated daily usage, actual currently about 120-140 a month times 12 months is 1,600 and the rest of the 8000 should be night.
I try to run appliances in the night, specifically washer and dishwasher. I don’t have dryer, electric shower.
I don’t know if this is good logic, but it’s the best I have come up with until I can take actual data.0 -

I take readings monthly since February and the daily comes about 120-140.0 -
They quoted me that 7.56p a unit on economy 7 too, which I find too good to be true. The day rate is very high though but as someone who has storage heaters I am tempted. They are far cheaper over the next 6 months for me with that heat rate0

I could have saved more with UW in April as my night time usage is 95% as I have 8 storage heaters and a immersion heater but was put off by the high daytime rate and wasn't sure of UW's reputation. In the end I went with a 2 year fix with EDF which was 7p less during the day and 1p dearer at night. In the current climate I think it's a no brainer if you can get a fix with them rather than a variable tariff.

I think I have seen on their web that by signing up to fixed tariff with them you are agreeing to smart meter- so that was ultimate dealbreaker for me.
