Apparently the government website does not state that the Day 2 test must be a PCR test. See this article
I tried to find the relevant section on the Govt website but it has so far eluded me as there are so many rabbit holes on it to disappear down!
Day 2 has to be PCR and positive cases should be sequenced. They’re not, but that’s another matter.
  • It looks like expert medicals has now been taken off the approved gov list. Anyone know of any other cheap providers for day 2 pcr? Next cheapest ive found i think is £40

According to Which the tests I have recently bought are still ok to use.

  • Yes looks like they will honour tests already bought. Assuming any new tests bought now would not be valid for use

Who cares if your test doesn’t arrive or you don’t get the test results. I only want the test number to put on the passenger locator form to get me back into England. I’ll try Expert Medical when I come back to the UK in October.
  • They have now been taken off the government approved list though so not sure that their codes will be valid for the passenger forms?

I must admit part of me feels the same way coming back from  country with around 50 new daily cases per million compared to the UK with 550 per million - more than ten times higher.

On one occasion, my day 2 test arrived far too late to use. I plan to use the test reference number again on another PLF as the test hasn't been used or registered (Randox in this case) so presume its good to be used again. If the PLF form accepts it I'm using it...

They will be valid. The plf recognises anything in the correct format that isn’t in a database of codes already used for tests. The government list is a list of suppliers that meet standards, it isn’t a list of companies you have to use.

I have just bought day 2 tests from Testing For all, £46 a go. I paid more because we have no drop boxes for other companies near us and the TFA ones we have come with a pre paid return envelope- and as we are going away again on day 3 (UK this time but multipe hotels) I thought it easierr to just post and go and not to worry about it. I have done it more to comply with the requirements, but for our own peace of mind will do NHS ones  before we set off again in case of any issues. My only fear is if that the TFA ones don't arrive with us  in time, but the few reviews there are suggest they are usually quite good.

We have just used Randox; with code Travel21 it brought the cost down to £43 each.
Did the tests on 6.9.21 ( evening)
Dropped the tests off 7.9.21 @ 2pm (hotel in Bristol)
Received email confirming tests had arrived at laboratory on 8.9.21 @ 11.33am
Received email confirming our results on 9.9.21 @ 00.06
Very happy with the process from start to finish and have gone on to order x6 tests for a family holiday later this month.
