New Nationwide Switch - both new and existing?

Which is very often just before or on payment date. Until the originator of the direct debit has applied for it the bank don't know about it so it can't show up.bristolleedsfan said:kaMelo said:
The information given by the Nationwide agent is correct. A payment needs to have been taken before a direct debit is "active"adamp87 said:

I think the general view is likely to be that, until we hear back from someone that did a switch with DD's setup but not paid which won't be for a week at least, we can't be sure as to exactly how NW are interpreting 'active' DDs so to be on the safe side (at this stage anyway) it's probably best to make sure they have paid out once first before the switch date (which can be set to be up to 30 days ahead...although it might be sensible to time it so that the DDs payout a few days before the switch date as DDs tend to appear on the new account several days before the actual switch date)BigBlueSky said:Is the general consensus that you just need DD's setup and don't need to have actually had funds taken from them before the switch ?
Hi, I just had chat with Nationwide. Agent advised that when I set up DD and first payment will be taken on 8 Sept - I can do swich only AFTER first payment has been taken, not before... I am wondering if it's true because switch takes time, and if I wait until 9 Sept - …
so a DD would need to have been active prior to switching to claim as you stated above
Prior to that it doesn't exist as such so Nationwide would not see it. Payment taken after the switch date would be considered a new direct debit rather than a switched one.
Direct Debits are shown as active within donor account online banking ( as opposed to inactive) as soon as they are set up0 -

I set up two direct debits on Monday in respect of FD account -Post Office and B.M, today both were showing as active direct debits, reason I know that is says "click here to see inactive DDs and SOs"

Well you're better than me because I can categorically state that Post Office DD's have only ever shown up the day before they were taken at a variety of banks I've had them with. Birmingham Midshires I can't comment on as I don't have one.
On a side note the idea that Post Office savings do anything in a timely manner is completely out of character for them.0 -
Agree, takes days usually and once showing in donor accounts list of DDs it’s active and will be transferred across during the switch. Doesn’t need to have paid out yet just to be in the list. Might even get a courtesy letter to say it’s been set up!bristolleedsfan said:kaMelo said:

I set up a Post Office D.D on Monday on a Lloyds doner account and it is now showing in my list of direct debits - frequency "not known"

I think it depends on the banks. Some do it the way you described, others (Natwest/RBS?) only show them online once a payment has been made.bristolleedsfan said:kaMelo said:
