My son (19) tried to do the switch today from his "teen" Flex One account but it wouldn't go through. The error came up as something to do with the sort code because it began with 00 or 07. Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?
Is a Flex one a Nationwide account?
Yes. He tried to apply through internet banking on the app. My mistake not noticing eligibility checker on the site

I've always said 'No' to 'have you got a debit card' where I no longer have it, so never used it. Never had a problem.

I'm testing the theory again atm with a solo switch to FlexDirect joint (after 2 solos, me and oh) and 'No' to DC.
    eta clarity

Having read the terms again, the penny has dropped: Above is going to fail work under term 4:

"This offer is only valid on the first sole current account and first joint current account you switch to us...."

And the 'solo into the Jt' would be my 2nd solo switch, so won't qualify. :(

I'll see if I can abort that one and set up DDs on a joint pronto.

It'll still test the no DC theory, 'cos I'm pretty sure the only currently unused Jt I have hasn't got a DC.

    ETA corrected spelling.

Not at all. Get your son to open a donor account, best with a bank which doesn't do hard credit checks, such as Monzo. Then he has an account that qualifies for the switch. Obvsly needs to set up 2 DDs on the Monzo as well. If he has those on his FlexOne, he might try to switch the FlexOne to Monzo first.

Alternatively, if he has 2 DDs on his FlexOne, he could switch to Virgin Money for the £150 Experience Day gift card.  Once the gift card is received, switch the Virgin Money account to Nationwide for the free £125.

True - but Virgin do a hard search, and he'll have another hard search at Nationwide. Not sure whether this would be an issue for a 19 year old applicant

Does Nationwode do a hard search for existing current account customers when not reauesting overdraft?

Someone on page 17 said it was a soft search but I am not sure if that is corrwct.

    It was me.
I said it because Nationwide stated it was a soft search when I applied for a solo FlexDirect, in addition to the Joint FD I(we) already hold.

FI: Aborting the destined-to-fail solo switch was easy in the switch tracker. :)
  • It said that "
    1. The switch must be completed within 30 days of you requesting it."

So, if I apply today (22nd August 2021) via NW internet banking for full current account switch, I can select a date which is let say 20th September 2021 (which is 28 days)

    Is that correct?

Should be OK... but if you count the start and end days that'd actually be 30 days.
So 20th might be risky in a possible interpretation.

If you want it to safely qualify & complete on 20th maybe wait to start it in a couple of days time; or alternatively, pick a couple of days earlier to complete, say17/18th if that's an option..
