Erroneous transfer nightmare

I have read your comments and they are not completely clear to me. Are you completely sure that both your electricity and gas were with npower when you moved in? Have you got the final bill for gas from npower to prove it? If so, what is the end date for this final bill? Does that correspond to the start date that So are trying to bill you from?Reed0

So to summarise
- When you moved in nPower was the incumbent supplier for both electricity and gas.
- You applied to switch both electricity and gas to BG and paid your final bill for both to nPower.
- Electricity was switched as intended but somehow gas ended up with So Energy instead of BG.
- Moreover the So Energy account is in a different name.
- And it took you some 20 months to realise that the gas transfer had not gone as intended.
Is that correct?Reed0 -

yes it is0 -
This is a mystery that is difficult to fathom. The only thing I can think of to explain it is that you made the transfer from Npower via some third party that accidentally confused your transfer of gas to BG with somebody else's transfer to So Energy. If so then you have cause for complaint with whatever third party made the transfer on your behalf.
But you will still have to pay for the gas you have used since you left Npower. Since your gas meter is registered with So then that is the company you will have to pay. They seem surprisingly reluctant to acknowledge you as the occupier, given that nobody can have ever paid them for the gas you have used.Reed0 -
Erroneous transfers do happen, and there are a number of reasons why this is the case. The bit that I am struggling with is why the OP failed to notice that there was no BG bill for gas. Whether or not the regulations on erroneous transfers are relevant is somewhat academic. The gas that has been used with So is, I assume, being paid for by A N Other. The simplest way of resolving this issue is to provide So with the confirmation that it requires which should enable them to confirm ownership and the date when the OP took over responsibility for the property. I am not sure that I understand the reluctance to disclose Title Deeds.
In my opinion, there is no case here for BackBilling. Firstly, So was unaware of the correct owner of the property and, secondly, had BG taken over the gas supply there is a requirement on the consumer to request a statement. BackBilling wasn’t brought in so that consumers could just sit back and hope that the supplier wouldn’t notice that a particular supply wasn’t being billed.
It would be interesting to know what the monthly DD payment is for this particular BG account? If the DD was set correctly then there should be a large balance.0 -

FWiW, i moved into a new build just over three years ago and there was a mix up between plot numbers and addresses. The MPAN/MPRNs and meter serial numbers were correct but the property addresses were not. It took 6 months to resolve and we were all with the same supplier!
Having read the thread again, I do not think that this is an erroneous transfer of supply. By all accounts, BG never took over the gas supply: if they had, they would have been a Final Bill when the supply was 'grabbed' by So. By all accounts, the OP has never paid BG for gas.0 -
No have paid for gas to SO and they've never send any threatening letters to my property even in different name seems like all correspondence is online.
so your expert opinion is its my responsibility and so supplied property( dies not matter whom) and I should provide title deed to prove the occupancy and pay all of the outstanding balance???0 -
You know what the say: "Ignorance is no defence ...". Having not paid for gas for 20 months and not done anything about it (because you had not realised it) then you will need to pay for the gas used from the time you left Npower. Whether that is the same as the outstanding balance remains to be seen.Reed0
