So the LUL staff are correct, however without sight of the actual ticket showing the journey paid for none of us can be sure if in fact there was an alternative routing across London which didn't need to involve an LUL journey. There is also the question of the instructions to TOC ticket issuing staff for cross London journeys, what are they?
However, as I said before, the OP is long gone and didn't wish to share their ticket detail so not much more to be said.0 -
Yes I can.harz99 said:
Without knowing the actual journey, and sight of the ticket itself, you cannot make those conclusions...anotheruser said:Why is the OP missing the point here?

Although the guidance says "should not" not "must not".harz99 said:So the LUL staff are correct, however without sight of the actual ticket showing the journey paid for none of us can be sure if in fact there was an alternative routing across London which didn't need to involve an LUL journey.
This is on LU to stop being lazy and read the ticket. If I buy a ticket from Northampton to Portsmouth, it will include cross London travel. If the train company only issues paper roll tickets now, that isn't the fault of the customer. I can understand why LU may not want to implement barcode readers but either way, a complaint should be raised and it is LU's issue to resolve / sort out with National Rail.0 -
Nope, you can travel from Northampton to Portsmouth without using the tube, changing at Watford Junction and Clapham Junction, but thank you for illustrating why I've previously said we need sight of the actual ticket and the instructions from the relevant TOC to their ticket issuing staff to be certain. I wish I was clairvoyant like some...anotheruser said:

Obviously it says that. This is TfL guidance so they cannot declare that a ToC "must not" do something. The "should not" could include the fact that ToCs have been advised by TfL not to issue this type of ticket as it is not acceptable for Underground travel. So it isn't the fault of the customer; it's the fault of the ToC (or the conductor) who issued an invalid ticket for the journey planned.anotheruser said:

Indeed - we don't know if the OP bought a ticket for a non-Underground route but assumed it was valid on the Underground because the conductor didn't mention it (or possibly didn't know themself).Nope, you can travel from Northampton to Portsmouth without using the tube, changing at Watford Junction and Clapham Junction, but thank you for illustrating why I've previously said we need sight of the actual ticket and the instructions from the relevant TOC to their ticket issuing staff to be certain. The should vs must is because LU aren't responsible for TOC retail procedures.anotheruser said:

Flows that could conceivably be valid for transfer via LU/DLR services should be setup in the database in such a way that they can only be issued on magstripe ticket stock or ITSO Smartcard.
That doesn't stop some retailers from ignoring that flag and issuing them as print at home or mobile tickets, however.0
