I have no idea how your GP knows because DWP don't usually share this sort of information. It's the health assessment providers that contact DWP by sending them the ESA113 form, which is just a tick box form. The health assessment providers dont make decision's only recommendations. Once the decision's been made you will be sent the decision letter.

Does the form sent to GPs have Support Group descriptors on there?  I wonder if the GP said on the form yes they meet XYZ descriptor(s) and there's been a misunderstanding somewhere that that means that's what the award will be.

No, it's purely a simple tick box form and doesn't say anything at all about any descriptors.

Its not a list as such - just a statement that says

"............ This patient meets or is treated as meeting the eligibility criteria for ESA WRA/Support Group............"
It was dated 30 August and came from JCP
    No descriptors mentioned

eligibility criteria for ESA WRA/Support Group............"

Hmm even that makes no sense because there's no such thing as WRA/Support Group. There's 2 different groups,  WRAG or Support Group. Either way as your ESA is a credits only claim i would assume they would leave you alone even if placed into the WRAG.

    Here it is in full

I have not had any assessment yet - despite what it claims
I am also confused, since it talks about me as a patient rather than a claimant - remember this is from JCP / DWP

What the letter actually says is that your GP no longer needs to continue with the fit notes because you meet the criteria for limited capability for work. What it doesn't say is which group you've actually been placed into because it says "work related activity group (wrag) and Support Group and you can't be placed into both groups lol.
I would assume that you'll have the decision letter in the near future. I do know that they have huge backlogs at the mail sorting centre for post going from and to DWP. Even if placed into the WRAG with a credits only claim i would imagine they would "leave you alone" anyway, rather than give you work related requirements.
The reason why it talks about you as a patient is because you are your GP's patient and not their claimant.

I would say that it does imply that I have been put in the support group
It says that my GP no longer need supply fit notes
And I meet the eligibility for WRAG/Support
Support being a subset of WRAG

    I agree with poppy.
It's a generic letter which covers people going into either group.
Even in the WRAG, despite the name, you don't have to keep supplying Fit Notes once you are assessed as meeting the criteria.
