Lead in times for some models are now over 12 months, which is why used prices are rising.

Very valid point, I was careful to check the car I wanted was available before deciding to benefit from the current situation and get out of a car I hated early.
Mind you, people are guilty of being a bit lazy about sourcing new cars.
Unless it's something really exotic, my attitude is there's always some available somewhere.
Another recent example is friends who wanted a Skoda Enyaq EV and were told "months" by the local dealer.
10 minutes googling revealed quite a few sitting at other dealers ready to go.

I must have the most exceptional car - I don't intend to sell but just did a WBAC price in any case and they offered by the lowley sum of £150.  I could probably weigh it in for scrap and get more.

Pretty obvious it's their way of saying they simply don't want it.

Colleague got offered £5000.00 from WBAC for his wife's Mini a few months back
    Now being offered £7500.00
Given that a dealer woukd be looking at adding at least a grand onto that, I've no idea who is actually buying Minis of that age for £8500.00.....
I sold my Fiat 500 last year in September.  It was a 2011 plate Lounge with FSH and 22k on the clock.  It sold for £5,000.  To say I was stunned was an understatement.  The lady who came for it was thrilled and told me all the ones she'd tried to look at sold before she could get there.

Small cars like 500's and to some extent mini's always seem to operate in their own orbit because they are popular first cars I suppose, but the rising prices certainly started last year and have crept since then.
  • If furlough ends in September as planned, how many people will lose their jobs and have to hand back their PCP cars?
This could force used prices down plus with the normal fluctuation as winter approaches.
That said, employers can't get enough staff so who knows?
You would think that at least used prices have peaked.

Just today, Toyota have announced they're cutting new car production by 40% due to the shortage of electronics.
Looks like high used prices will be with us for a while.

I know so many who are, and going for new cars that are already in stock - me included.
The prices of those haven't risen, still plenty of deals to be done.
Our office is buzzing with people changing cars, after hearing my experence.
