..if you think the amount used car prices going up is bad, have you tried to buy any timber recently!!
    Yes! Crazy.
    Yup.
I am having to re-use joists at the moment, as my builders can't get decent new ones.

Difference is that I can largely delay / drip feed my essential wood purchases, with the increase in price a few hundred pounds at most, whereas i do rather need a car, now, and many thousands of pounds increased.

Yes.  Please post a picture of your supercharged V8 interceptor with fuel cans strapped to the back when you buy it.

Less than 400k cars available on one popular online board.  Usually well over 500k cars available.

That may have as much to do with the death of Autotrader itself.
Used to use it all the time years ago, it's now the last place I'd try.
    Way too expensive.
  • What do people now use instead? Is it Facebook marketplace? Carwow? Where else?

I've had decent success with Facebook marketplace.  Yes you get the "is this available" requests then you hear nothing after you reply and yes you get time wasters but it has delivered for me in terms of selling.

Over the last 2-3 years i've sold three or four cars ranging from £2500 to £16,000 and got them sold no problem.

Of interest, they were all advertised on A/T as well (£5 for a fortnight offer) and i didnt even get a call generated via A/T

I like facebook marketplace and have sold many cars and bikes there.
Plenty of text and 20 free photos.
You will get the almost immediate messages making you insulting offers without even seeing the vehicle, but you can block them.
Then the decent people come in, and you can view their facebook profile to get a feel for them.
    Met some very nice folk.

Sold my car to Arnold Clark today. On line valuation was greater than Motorway and WBAC. After inspection offer increased by £650. Well pleased with that.

So they made you an online offer you were happy with, but after having a look they offered you £650 more than the offer you were happy with?
    That's absolutely bonkers business practice!
You've scored, but that's just mental on their part.

That's the market at the moment. Nuts.
I sold my Discovery Sport in June, and two months later the online valuations are +£1,000

It's all great, until you need to buy a second hand car...
