Can anyone help re: an order ~ told it's been delivered but I haven't got it!

Just wondered if anyone could help me, I have placed an order online with Argos but never got a confirmation email from them, so I gave them a call and they took my card details and stated that no order had gone through, so I placed the order over the phone, Anyway my order ( phone order ) was delivered and i signed for it, so far so good.

However i have just got my card statement (Argos) today and I have been charged twice for the same item, so thinking it was some sort of mistake I gave them a call and was advised that I was indeed delivered 2 items, they advised me that my signature appears on both deliveries ! I expalined that I had only signed once and received one parcel but was told that multiple deliveries at the same time only require 1 signature. ( It was one of those electronic thingy's I signed on) So they have my signature against a parcel I haven't received.

They have advised me that they know have to interview the driver with regard to the delivery as he returned to the depot with no items left over and my goods were signed for and therefore I had to dispute the delivery. TBH he probably makes that many orders a day that he probably won't remember mine.

So basically it is my word against the drivers, he is surely not going to admit to any mistake he possibly made on his rounds and therefore we will have conflicting stories. I am now rather worried that I am going to be charged for something I have not received and they will not be able to get back to me until Wednesday.

Has this happened to anyone before ? or can anyone help

I am now really worried as basically my word against the drivers.

  • Don't worry - I'm sure this will be resolved, although its an unfortunate hassle. Did you print out the page with your original order or have any copy of it?
  • Argos will come good in the end, unfortunately it is just the few that are jobsworth that you have to deal with. Ask them for a proper printed signature of your alleged deliveries. They should have date and times of the signatures. If the signatures match exactly then you know they have copied them over in the machine, sign your name twice and it will never match twice. Have a word with there Customer Service and tell them that you are informing your card people to dispute the one transaction as firstly you have not authorised it (they already admitted that you never placed an order initially) and secondly that you have not received the goods. Hopefully this should give them a nudge in the right direction. I would also ask them who is going to compensate you for your time and phone calls etc that you are having to make to sort out the problem that Argos have caused. Just know your rights, stick to them and be firm.

    Good luck.
  • Thanks for the replies, i paid by Argos card on 6 months interest free credit, so got no comeback on the card side of things.

I originally placed the order via the internet and this did not give any order number just said it was an order acknowlwdgement ( not an email just the last screen of order) but no order number on it, the screen just said I would get a confirmation email with order number ( I did print this off), after about an hour I hadn't had a confirmation email, so I called them and they told me that no order had been made so I placed the order over the phone. (If argos record their calls they should also have logs of the calls where this was confirmed). I was given an order number over the phone for the phone number.

When the order arrived there was no invoice or anything inside so when I called them today ( after getting my statement) I just gave them the number I had and the guy told me that two orders had been received, delivered and signed for ( albeit only one signature)

With regards to the signature Argos have told me that both orders have signatures which are exactly the same ( but they will be as I only signed the machine once!! and I told them this) and they would only expect a customer to sign once even if more than once parcel was delivered. To me this seems stupid surely you should have to sign per parcel.

Still really worried as have to wait until Wednesday, didn't feel too bad when I opened my statement just thought that it was a simple admin error. But not the case:(

On those machines you do only sign once regardless of the number of parcels, it will state on the screen the number you are signing for.

Ask them for a hard copy pod whilst they carry out their internal investigations with the driver.
  • What is a hard copy pod?

Didn't even look at the screen just signed, only expecting 1 parcel so didn't even give it another thought.

The problem is Argos are saying they have my signature for both deliveries ( albeit the same signature) therefore if i disputed it with card services then they would just investigate whether i signed for it, that is why i think it is down to my word against the drivers, if a mistake has been made on his round somewhere along the line, he has a signature for me signing for it ~ it is me without the proof I had the 2nd parcel.

But surely the signatures will not be yours?
    Therefore it's their drivers issue?

Edit: Doh - just re-read what you said = ignore my post.

You still want to dispute it with card services, this will put the amount on hold at least while its investigated

It is on interest free credit for 6 months, and they have said that they will get back to me on Wednesday, I know it is only a couple of days away but I am a bit of a worrier ( and a pessomist! ) and it is going to be a long couple of days, I just can't understand how they can come to any decision in my favour as the delivery driver will no doubt say that 2 parcels delivered and he has signature as proof, I have nothing other than my word for it.:(

I suppose I have been naive here in not checking amount of parcels but as I had only placed 1 order i wasn't expecting anything else, but I know now to make sure I always check in future. Probably learnt the hard way !
