  • I always thought I would teach  until 60. I'm leaving at 50 and I'll be taking my pension at 55.

It is worth watching The Pit Pony video by Sharon Cawley on the tube of U.
I found it. I am not ready for it yet. My bottom line is about 1500. The stuff about wasting money is so true. I sit here today almost every Saturday and feel exhausted. That cannot be right. I think my place is about to get more stressful. I will be ready soon.

The funny thing is I typed an answer first that said I was happy to be pit pony!

    Madness.

That is a must-watch for anybody getting out of teaching. I just wish it had been around years ago. It took me years to get to that point.

£1500 is only £75 per day @ 20 days per school month. You could do that.

I could - between supply and tutoring (it was really good last week).

  • Today's crazy plan..............

Move all the things out of my room. (aside from books)

    Rearrange furniture.

clear and tidy book shelves. Make charity bag (sobs)

    Put things back.

    Wish me luck.

I know so many teachers who have left and found other work. Non of them regretted the pressures but most missed the kids.

  • The room was a disaster.

I didn't get anywhere. AT ALL.

I have started doing some work - sat in the living room which is very hard to manage. Trying to copy and paste stuff. I loathe google. I think I will have to download and work on it directly on the laptop.

all this has made me realise I need to have a desk. What a waste of a day.

Not a disaster if you now realise you need a desk. You can have fun trawling shops which sell desks, online or real,  charity shops which specialise in interesting furniture.  I don't have room for a proper desk so I have a long narrow console table in pine which I bought new for thirty quid quite a few years ago. It has two drawers. You deserve a desk.
