Help, I switched from edf to eon next at the end of may I just had my first bill and it says I’m £236 in debit 😫 I checked my usage previously in edf bills and it’s so much lower , my son moved out at the end of March so it’s just me I work and have only been home a few days recently I haven’t got any new appliances etc so I just don’t know what to do , their bill says I used approx 1233 kWh in 8 weeks , an edf bill shows I used about 100kwh in one month and that was when my son was here how can this be? If I’m £236 in debit from may to July what about the winter? I’m literally panicking 🥲

Have  a close look at the meter reads - is the letter E there by any chance ?

Read your meter NOW and give the reading to Eon Next
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Hi @Tracytrace Welcome to the forum, hopefully we can put your mind at rest a bit here, it’s a real shock when you suddenly have a big debt like this. I presume you’re up to date with payments since May? If you’re paying by Direct Debit I doubt that you’ll see that whole amount being taken in one go.
Have you been submitting regular meter reads? Is it possible that you submitted a reading using incorrect figures? This will cause a huge miscalculation of your usage over the short term. You’ll need to post a few more times before you can upload a scan of your bill (with personal information suitably redacted) or a photo of the meter. Can you post up the meter type and model number.
if you can post the last valid (actual) reading, not estimated, and one from as long ago as you can some clever members on here can try and help reassure you on what your true annual usage might be and how much your bills should be.

If you proactively switched provider, what readings did you submit and what estimates of annual usage did you base your decision to switch on? What does the bill say you are due to pay (May we’ll be different to the total debit amount, as I said previously).

It should be straightforward to check this.
What was your meter reading when you switched at the end of May?
    What is it now?
How much per kWh is your current tariff and what’s the daily standing charge.

Where your previous bills based on actual or estimated readings? Have EDF and E.on Next used the same reading to close and open your accounts as they are required to do? How does your Actual meter reading compare to the one used by E.oN Next to open your account? Did you provide E.oN Next with a meter reading on switch?

PS the opening reading may have an ‘E’ against it if it has been provided by a data collector for switching purposes.

All actual readings , I’ve printed out previous bills from edf and looked at “my read” and the kWh used is literally 99 over about 4 months but this bill shows 1233 used over 2 months I don’t understand 😫

What is the reading now - how much has it gone up in the last week?
What sort of meter do you have?  Is a misreading possible?
