The cry of those annoyed they can't afford one and want to place an unpleasant trait on the owner.
i am in no way envious of a vanity plate and can assure you that even if I was a billionaire I would not waste my money.
Can you explain why people feel the need and the benefits of paying for a vanity plate?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
What does it say about them? More money than sense springs to mind.motorguy said:
Can't wait for the excuses for vanity plates being mse. DVLA controls 90% (a guess) of the market so not much scope for profit.
Vanity plates just disguise the age of the vehicle imo and purely cosmetic = vanity
I have known people take there vanity plates off for a year when they lease a new vehicle to show everyone a new car number plate. Isn't spending reasonably substantial amounts of money on purely cosmetic, utterly non-functional trivial details pretty much the dictionary definition of vain?motorguy said:

Can you explain why people feel the need and the benefits of paying for one? There are numerous reasons, you are not allowed to transfer a plate that makes your cars appear newer than it really is.So people may think you are driving an older banger, the opposite of being vain.My grey car is rather boring, so something to make it more memorable would be a positive, also good from a business point of view.

I think it speaks volumes about you if you think that a private plate shows undue or excessive pride.AdrianC said:

Given how many people have one, its hardly marking someone out as being among the elite, or believing they are among the elite is it?

I've got plenty of things that aren't of any practical benefit over much cheaper options.2
