Private number plate
Hi, just want to ask some advice from those who have gone through the process of assigning private plates to their car.
Purchased a plate from dvla
Received v750, used this to have the plates made.
Used online service on saturday evening to assign the plate which was successful and received the confirmation via the site and email that the number plate can be put on the vehicle. The plates were put on the car as instructed
Insurance company informed and new certificate recieved and the new plate is showing in MID as insured
My question, how long does dvla take to update their systems, i thought it was instantly online however when using the vehicle check service on gov.uk, the car cannot be found on either the original plates or newly assigned plate.
Just a bit worried as im making a 400mile round trip this week and im sure anpr cameras will flag it?
Cant get hold of dvla via phone to ask directly.
Many thanks for any help

DVLA are very slow in updating just now
My neighbour was given all the 'good to go' indications for her private plate, DVLA said to go, her insurance updated.
She was still pulled over by the police for apparently not having insurance.
It was all easily sorted once they did their PNC check thing, but she still had the embarrassment of being pulled over.0 -
Thank you. Thats reassuring. Askmid shows my car as insured on the new plates so canmot fault the insurance company for updating that database as they did within a hour.
Just the dvla issue where it shows as no vehicle found0 -
If it was all done online, it should take around a week to show correctly from my experience in March this year.0

Look on the bright side ... if no results can be found via DVLA check then for any ANPR notices (fines or invoices) they won't know where to send them. 😎😈Jenni x1

Back in 2000 I imported an Alfa 156 from Ireland, as it was cheaper and better spec than UK.Jenni_D said:Look on the bright side ... if no results can be found via DVLA check then for any ANPR notices (fines or invoices) they won't know where to send them. 😎😈
It had an Irish plate which I was advised to keep on for as long as I could (I think the max was 6 months), as the UK system allegedly wasn't linked to the Irish system and I could effectively ignore speed cameras.0 -
I think the fact that neither the new nor old number is showing up shows that the transfer is in progress. Once the new number is fully transferred, the old number will show up as not recognised.
I wouldn't worry about making your journey."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
All plates are private.0

Isn't it mse to change your name to your reg. Rather than buy a vanity plate😀?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson1

You've probably made the journey by now, but I would be inclined to take all the paperwork with me just in case. Recently I bought a car that had been uninsured for about 6 months. I insured it from 9 am the day I collected it, and on the way home sure enough I was pulled for no insurance. A nice little sit down and an interrogation in the back of a shiny police car, a first for me. Luckily I had brought a print-off of the insurance certificate with me and I was allowed to go on my way. Actual paper goes a long way when online systems can be slow or out of date.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.1
