nannygladys said:SW is going well, I've we lost another 2lbs this week, must be all the courgettes I've been eating 😄 I made tom soup today using mainly home grown produce which will last a couple of more days, and then I will be making courgette and potato soup and I think there's cabbages ready to be eaten so will have a think what I can use those for, not soup though!!!! Stuffed cabbage leaves and cabbage pie I reckon for a start 🤣
Well done for growing cabbages for you to eat. Mine are shared with slugs and pests who leave none for me, gave up long ago!Love living in a village in the country side1 -
Hi
ive just finished your whole diary, it’s kept me very entertained not boring at all.
I just wanted to say that when I was at our community pantry this week, we had some people from the local water provider there giving advice.
they said that if you’re household income is less than £16,000 and something a year, you are eligible for their social tariff and this would reduce your water bill to half.
they also said all the water companies will be doing something similar. I hope that’s something that might help.

in_my_wellies - its the first real year they haven't been attacked by an army of slugs! There are a few but a good soaking in salt water and close scrutiny is done first before any thing else🙂
I grew cauliflower a few years ago - never again as it was a slug hotel, I put them all in the compost bin after looking at the first one, caulies that is not slugs!!£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund1 -
savetosave - wow, reading the whole lot, you brave person 😄😄 thanks, that cheered me up!
I've just paid my water bill so I will have to have a look on the website, every penny helps and you don't get anything if you do nothing, I will let you know what happens, thanks🙂£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund0 -
So what have I been up to?
Well on Friday just gone, I went out for a meal to help celebrate youngest dds birthday and had a lovely meal at wagamamas, had exactly what I wanted, I do enjoy that particular kind of food and they've opened up a new branch just outside of the city a couple of weeks ago. There didn't seem to be a cost of living crisis in there, it was full!! I was treated which was lovely especially as it wasn't even my birthday 🙂
I haven't heard anything from pension credit but I had an email saying they would be in contact before the end of September to discuss a couple of things!! I did fill the form in whilst in bed when I couldn't sleep, but I have checked the copy I sent and it looked ok to me, so I will be waiting with bated breath for that!
I haven't had any money taken for g&e this month, so I'm thinking they have taken it out of the credit that was in the account as I usually have it paid back into my bank account and that hasn't happened this year and after getting 'boosts' etc taken off my internet account it seems very low this month so from what I can make out I have been paying up front for it, so I paid too much last month and it's now saying it's nil so I have made a note in my budget book to keep checking these two accounts and the money that hasn't been taken I've left in my current account just in case. Sorry, that was a bit long winded 🙂
Been doing grandma duties today and managed to get out for a walk whilst the weather was fine. I was at the Lottie yesterday and the weeds love the wet weather, but I picked quite a bit of veg and shared it out between dd's and myself. There's still plenty of courgettes but the bean season has started now! I also picked some apples and plums from the Lottie orchard, and may make a couple of jars of jam from the plums. I'm still pickling beetroot and pickling that, but I do love beetroot!! So that's me up to date,
I went to lids the other day, but it was quite late so the shelves were looking quite empty but the only things I couldn't get were sugar and milk!! But I'm not desperate yet so will try again and go a bit earlier🙂 I will update sig after posting this.
So that's it for now, I have nothing out of the ordinary planned for the rest of the week but a Lottie utuber I follow says Wilkos have reduced their seeds again and many are now 15-50p according to how much they were originally, so I may go and have a look at those and also see how much a new curtain rail is for the back bedroom.
Take care everyone, hope you are all feeling fine and managing to navigate to through this mine field we are all facing at the moment.

Our plums are still green here, but there are branches heaving with them. I do hope we can harvest them before the wasps get feasting 😁

I have the pup for the weekend - yay!!!!! 😄
Youngest DD and family are visiting friends for a couple of days. He has already destroyed his teddy, well chewed its head off and done so many zoomies around the garden I think every flower is now dead headed 😄 it's a good job I love him!
It's been quiet in my house the last few days. Eldest dgd visited for a couple of days but she is picking up a few extra shifts at work whilst she can. We went to a small local town yesterday and it I managed to get a curtain pole in the sales but sadly no more seeds, oh and a new alarm clock, my old one is very unreliable so I have moved it into the back bedroom for any guests to use!!! Sil is coming tomorrow to put new pole up for me - I hope!!
I was reading Martin's report on the new capped g&e and came across the Iceland voucher offer to oaps so as I qualified I rang up and I should be getting a £30 voucher through the post, I don't go to Iceland very often but to use the voucher I will be!! Apparently it's not nationwide and I wasn't too sure whether my area was included, but you could go and look at where the participating shops are and the nearest to me here was one of them so I'm feeling really lucky and grateful 🙂
Anyway thats it for a bit, have a lovely bank holiday weekend, I'm not doing much besides pup walking and admiring my new curtain pole (I hope sil remembers to bring his drill etc)
