Thanks CRANKY40 - I usually do let dgd or dd to help set up things, but friend said it was 'dead easy' so I though I would try and he'd put it back to factory settings. As you can tell I'm not tech savvy at all but I'm so cross with myself as kindle is very old, has a cracked screen and only works when it's having a good day, it is very well used though!!!
I will try the tech board and see what happens, dgd has a iPad so would link work on that?

I think you need a pc or laptop. You could always ask the friend that gave it to you and ask him to help you set it up? It usually is noticeable when you choose a passcode as it asks you for a series of numbers then asks you to repeat it so maybe it isn't as wiped as he thought. It could be worth asking him what he used as his passcode....

CRANKY40 - I've tried so many passwords that it's now saying iPad unavailable, so it will have to go to a computer place I think. My dd suggested either 1234 or 0000, as it was put back to factory settings, but it didn't like 1234, so it may have been 0000, but said unavailable after the 1234xx! Anyway, to a computer place it will go
thanks for the suggestions though, I'll let you know what happens, but it may be a few weeks before I take it in. I may just call in and ask about it and prices first.

All you need is someone with itunes on their pc. I'd do it myself if we lived closer. Maybe email apple technical help first and see if they can suggest something?

Today has so far been a hot one like forecasted so haven't been far, in fact I haven't been anywhere. I've set up two tables and umbrellas outside but it's still too hot to sit out at either of them, so I'm sat in the shade of next doors fence, and I won't be staying there much longer!!
I do have to go to the lottie to water the poly but that won't take long and I'll probably collect dgd, who is coming with me tomorrow to grandma sit at dds (as normal), it'll save her mum or dad bringing her over later. That's about it really, just another normal day without stress or excitement

I’d second trying Apple tech support. I have always found them very helpful and patient 😀.0

Or is there a local community computer effort in your area to help people learn about computers. The library may be able to send you in the right direction.0

I've found out that there's a few websites that deal with the problem I've caused
but you need a laptop that I haven't got at the moment, so I'm going back to friend to see if we (him) can work it out! I've watched the vlogs a few times and it isn't hard if you know what you're doing and follow the instructions to the letter - famous last words

I phoned youngest dd this morning thinking it was Friday, I wondered what the noise was in the background she was in work as its Thursday - silly me
Anyway been having a real good sort out so have quite a lot to go the the cs, I'm hoping some of it I can rehome myself like the material I have and other crafts bits, that I can no longer see me using. The hub I go to have various craft mornings there and some of dds friends sew (hence phone call without thinking first!!). Also did a bit of a sort out of the under stairs cupboard so I've been able to shift a couple of boxes of 'pantry' goods to there, which were upstairs in the craft room I'm now dismantling.
It's a lot cooler today, so I will be heading down to the lottie soon, I think I will take some hot water and make myself a warm drink down there, I'm hoping there's quite a bit to pick but some more variety than just courgettes!!!it's even rained a but this morning, not enough to do the gardens much good though.
I see I haven't updated my grocery spends so I will do that in a minute. I haven't really spent much but I need to stop buying treats to take with me on a Tuesday, I don't normally but when eldest dgd is coming with me I start buying crisps, cakes and biscuits and then if we go a walk into town I'll buy sos rolls etc to sit and eat in the park and besides not doing my spending any good, it's not doing my waistline any good either
Well better go and look at my little bit of paradise!

Well in the end I didn't go to the lottie on Thursday, Friday or Saturday but waited until yesterday!! It's been raining on and off since then, and yesterday as well but really needed to water the tunnel. Everything was fine but there had been an explosion of courgettes!!! And everything is growing really well, so came away with plenty of veg for me, eldest dd and some for youngest dd as well, so really happy about that.
Fixed my g&e today as the prices are creeping up on the fixes, it's £20 more than I pay at the moment but it's gone up by £10 in the last week, so bit the bullet and did it before it goes up anymore, it's only for 12 months though but a lot less than is being predicted. It's all a bit meh really but at least I can get used to paying it before anything else goes up.
I did a food shop in asd@ yesterday and the prices!!!! I don't really go to the sm that often and then it's just for a couple of bits, so this time I really saw the price rises as I needed more. Mind you I noticed that the price of petrol had gone down a couple of pence, so I'm hoping that it doesn't go up again until after I need some!!!
Made a meal similar to the spag bol today but using canalloni beans instead, I ate it at dinnertime and its rather nice, so I'm taking a portion to have at dds tomorrow and then I'll have the last on Wednesday, I still haven't any room in the freezer but I do eat out of it, honestly!!!!
Killed a couple of frogs on Friday applying for a new driving licence and pension stuff, was sooooo happy to get those out of the way, there's still work to do on the pension stuff but I have to wait until yet more forms are delivered!!but at least the initial bits are out the way.
Saturday I spent some time with youngest dd and we went out for a pleasant few hours and I was treated to lunch and had so much I didn't really need tea but of course forced cheese and biscuits down. Anyway that's about it, grandma sitting tomorrow and then the school run later on (dgd breaks up on Friday) and I'm on my own as eldest dgd is having a rest after working a few days and her dad's on holiday anyway, so I won't be spending money whilst there, well only when I post a card to dd2 for their anniversary, it'll cost more to post than the card cost, her hubbies birthday card took nearly two months to get to them as it went via Ukraine we're not sure why as they live in Cyprus!!!!
