My mum used to get pension credit which entitled her to quite a few things. Have you looked into something like this?

    thats what it’s called,I couldn’t remember!
  • Suffolksue - I receive just over £3 a week over the pension credit point, something to do with some serps I paid or not (not sure which way) way way back and unfortunately when you own your own home the benefits you can claim don't seem to apply, I've already tried on the dwp website, the only one I'm eligible to is 25% off the council tax as I'm on my own, which is my biggest bill. It's just one of those things that I have accepted (it is what it is) and to be honest I'm a lot better off than many people (no mortgage or debt).

Well I've got through today, ate as per menu and moved money about to correct accounts. I have changed one of my online accs attached to my main bank account for the 'house repairs' and at present have £271.22, it may seem an odd amount, but there was already some put by and I put some in there today. Feels good to have started, I will be adding to it in dribbs and drabs if I can shave any off somewhere else.(pay day today not sure if I already said that.

I have another bag started for the charity shop, but there isn't much in it yet. I have the dreaded cupboard under the stairs to do but may wait until the better weather as everything from the very back needs to come out. I know I have two tents in there, along with children's toys and goodness knows what else!!!! I haven't started the craft room yet but as it has lots of toys in there belonging to Santa and eldest dd, for her two smallest daughters I'll have to wait until after Xmas :)

Anyway that's where I'm up to. Tomorrow my dgd comes to stay the night before her stint at the cs and we'll probably take pup for a good run over the fields.

Suffolksue - it's just one of those things, all I can suggest is get a good private pension and have no debt! As I say I'm a lot better off than many others, I have my own house, I manage to run a car and I made sure I had a new boiler, kitchen, windows etc in the years leading up to retirement. I just struggle a bit with having to manage with what's left after allocating monies to everything else, it would be nice to buy something without looking at the price ticket occasionally, mind you I have never been able to that :) my moan is over!!

Right today, eldest dgd has come to stay the night and we took pup for a walk in a country park which really good and blew cobwebs away. Tea tonight was a change from the menu, we had a slow cooker casserole, using up bendy veggies and potatoes, with some part cooked rolls, so there's enough left for the next few days. I froze yesterday's leftovers to have another time. So no money spent and purse tightly shut. It would have been so easy for me to call in for a pizza and chips to cook though!

I can't believe it's nearly the weekend and then Xmas, this year has flown by. Tomorrow dgd goes to do her volunteering and then will be picked up from here soon after, and then I have a few days on my own unless dd comes wanting to take pup - boo hoo. So some more sorting and sewing will take place.

Have you thought about volunteering to foster pups at a rescue centre? That way you’d get to look after a dog without the commitment or expense. The only downside is you might get too attached.

    Sun_Addict - that's a brilliant idea, I will make enquiries after Xmas.

Dd is collecting pup tomorrow, but I'm having him back on Tuesday night for a couple of nights!!!! Yay

I haven't really been out, only to take dgd to cs. But I have done a bit of cleaning and taken in some trouser legs for one of eldest dds  work mates, and written a 'to do' list for next week, as I have a few places and things to make and I don't want to miss anything.

Anyway tea is ready, back later.

  • Just pressed a button I shouldn't have and lost my post :/

Anyway, DD3 came this morning with her family and stole pup back, no he went with his family back home and although I'm sad they have a lovely, happy, beautiful little boy who is starting puppy classes after New Year that I know he will love :) mind you it's quiet without him, not that he is noisy, but he was always with me.

Anyway after a good cup of coffee and some chocolate eldest dd came and we got down to present wrapping and a good matter about everything and nothing and had a good laugh!!!! Don't do that enough as she works shifts full time in the nhs and has 3 dds (oh and a husband that does the same job but on opposite shifts to her) so works hard in and out of the home and wouldn't want it any other way.

As I haven't been out no money has been spent, which goes to show how much food I have in, I will have one shop for fresh fruit, milk and veggies before Xmas and hopefully that will be it until New Year. I may even buy some mince pies I love mince pies as much as I love chocolate!! Oh and I will have to fill the car up with petrol, I think I will do it all on either Monday or Wednesday....

Anyway I'm calling it a day as I'm really tired and perhaps I should go to bed and read my book for a bit, I was up really early this morning, even before pup!

Volunteering for fostering pups sounds a grand idea. My friend does something similar with kittens for the local rescue charity and she loves it.
DP and I would love to get a mini pond sorted, so that may be the plan for this year. We do currently have a toad in the garden who is helping out, but he overwinters here rather than all year around (I feel like making a story up about him) and nestles into the leaf litter of the evening where you can hear him grumbling to himself.

  • I believe mince pies freeze well nanny. The next few days , between Christmas and new year and then after New Year’s Day are all good times to hunt for marked down short dates to stock up your freezer. I love one warm with fresh cream 😋
You did a fabulous job raising that puppy ♥️
