I agree with you, it is important to do something every day and to eat well. Like you, I buy very little processed food now. We do have 4 tins of soup in the cupboard, that are my emergency rations in case we were to be ill and not be able to cook for a day or so. I do buy jam, but only good quality stuff from farm shops etc, and 1 jar last us a very long time. Just don't think its worth the faff of me making it for the amount we eat. Other than that, apart from the odd packet of biscuits and things like mustard, tarte sauce etc, I think we eat pretty healthy. Oh....we do sometimes have butchers sausages as a treat, as they are so nice from our local butcher. Also very big, so 1 is enough for me.
As for doing something every day, I try and do as much as I can. Just because I am retired now, doesn't mean I am going to sit and vegitate, I'll leave that to my in-laws. They do nothing but the odd food shop or trip to doctors and dentists. We say they are waiting for God, and they just don't seem to care any more, even though they are both reasonable healthy and have plenty of money for doing things. They won't even come and visit us, and only live about 5 miles away. Its very sad.

Makingabobor2 - thank you for the comments. I certainly did enjoy the pasta, even though it was random veggies from the fridge plus the obligatory onion, pasta and a little tom puree with a bit of cheese on top. I always say I prefer rice to pasta but I definitely eat more pasta!£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund2

Well I picked up DGD's from school and cooked them some tea and just after that their dad came for them as he had finished work a bit earlier, so we didn't get anything done to the secret prezzie!! They will definitely have to come for a few hours one Saturday or it's not going to get finished.
Tonight I haven't done very much at all, had a tidy around and done a few rows on my knitting, and I've started with hiccups, it's a long time since I've had them!!
There were just two things that I haven't done from my list today and they will both get done tomorrow and then I'm free to paint my nails and have a go at putting my face on, which I haven't done for some time. I have a feeling I'm going to busy Friday as the wedding is at 12 on Saturday and I'm helping set a few things up and I have quite a bit at home that needs to go to the venue
I'm getting quite excited now and really looking forwards to it, it seems an age since we had a wedding in the family.
Anyway I'll go now and start locking up before bed ie put the dog outside, make myself a last drink and get everything turned of.

I finished my bedtime reading last night so I have a new to me one to read that I'm looking forwards to.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund8 -
Have a fabulous time at the wedding. I hope it will be full of joy and make many happy memories 😊
Thank you all for all the discount tips and suggestions. I think I need to try to get into town on Tuesdays sometimes so that I can make the most of the frozen food offer. Also, look at where the nearest B+M is. We limit our UPF consumption too and I would rather have an egg on toast than a ready meal. Our breadmaker is in very frequent use and I like not having to go out to buy bread. Staying out of the shops is always the easiest option for my budgeting as I find shop displays very tempting. I can always find something else to do instead and I don’t miss it if I don’t go.4 -
Have a wonderful time at the wedding 🙂 My DS is getting married to his GF next year so that’s something to look forward to. It’s also his 40th next month which is scary as it doesn’t seem that long ago since it was my 40th 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

Moorviews - I can be easily swayed by the goodies in shops!! so I now only go once a week and hopefully nothing 'falls' into my basket, I'm getting much better at menu planning and now up to three day plans!

I hope you have a lovely time when your son gets married, I do love a wedding especially if its close family£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund2 -
Today didn't quite go as expected but its been really good! My dd phoned and asked me if I would like to see the wedding venue and take the bits & pieces I have been making for them, well I jumped at it, piled it all in the car and shot off
I've never been before but I'd had heard it was a lovely place and it didn't disappoint!!!! so I spent a hour or two talking weddings and admiring all the lovely scenery outside, shame is was cold and wet but as there is a big outside place undercover I think the photos will be spectacular.
Took the hem up on the bridesmaid dress and forgot to take it with me, so I will give it a gentle press (lots of net involved so have to be careful) and take it with me Saturday morning to her house, It has gone a lot better than I thought so I'm very pleased with the result, lets hope it fits better now.
Today I had more lentil dhal for dinner and just beans and eggs on toast for tea as I wasn't particularly hungry.
This morning I finalised my budget and now know what my aims and goals are but I haven't spent any of it yet so that's a good start.
I'm going up to bed to start another book, I was too tired to even open it last night

Have a really lovely day, weddings are always special.
89p is a good price, it’s nice to have options.
I made the microwave shortbread Nancys. Recipe using gf flour, it did puff up and spread over the edge of the glass plate so next time I will chill after I roll it out to keep its shape. flavour is lovely and texture is crispy, ideal for millionaires shortbread.
I like to make jams and compotes, and seville marmalade, high fruit content less sugar.
I don’t buy ready meals they are usually poor quality food. I prefer cooking from fresh, I make enough for several days and freeze in portions, gives me choice and helps my budget as food doesn’t get wasted.
slow living is going at your own pace, I retired a year ago, and I’m doing the things I enjoy but didn’t have time for before. I’m naturally a busy person, and always have a list of things to do, never bored.I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.6 -
Thanks @Sweetbriarrose for the update regarding GF flour in the microwave shortbread, I plan to make it soon and I need it to be GF.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
