Makingabobor2 - The lemon curd is lovely and will make some more next week as the quantity isn't very big, but as its so easy and quick it's well worth it, and I can't eat too much!!!!!!£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund5

I've been busy today, going the the local big charity depot buying some more glass dishes and fruit bowls for the wedding sweet table and doing some shopping in Asd@. I didn't buy very much but managed to get the meat for the dog and some fruit and veg that was on offer for me
I was very restrained but did go to their cafe for a coffee as its cheap, they have started doing the over 60's soup, roll and drink for a £1 and kids eat for £1 a meal all day, everyday Monday - Sunday, so I'll to tell my daughters and I'll definitely be visiting there sometime.
I've taken the shoulders up on my dgd's bridesmaid dress, just the hem to go now and that will be done on Thursday as tomorrow I'm out most of the day but I might manage to get some done when the dgd's go home about 7pm!!
I also get paid tomorrow, so I want to get my budgets done, but they may have to be done on Thursday. I'm not planning any expenditure tomorrow so I should be OK, but I still a few pounds in my purse if needed.
So that's it for today, it's gone quickly but I've had a good one

I have done a quick revised budget this month, so will probably revise it again as I go along, I have another big bill to go out this month which I have already taken out before I started putting money into pots, so not a lot left, but I seem to have plenty of food in but will need to buy stuff like milk and eggs. The wedding is all accounted for, Xmas money taken into account and there's no rent, mortgage or credit card bill to pay, so I'm blessed to still be in the black!£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund9

Thank you, I don’t have that book will have a look on Nancy’s website and instagram. Her new cookbook will be going on my Christmas list too.The charity depot sounds great. I’m still getting used to sometimes being able to get concessions. It varies though from over 60s to being over 66 and I am not quite there yet. It’s great that you have managed to make your money stretch and cover what you need.3

Morning, always read your diary nanny I like slow living too, thanks for reminder about the lemon curd and shortbread will be giving them a go.
Moorviews iceland have over 60s discount 10% on Tuesday's on everything you buy, they have sugar 1 kg bags for £2 with the discount that’s £1.80, and other baking supplies, i’m gluten intolerant, so I make my own cakes and biscuits, this is a real saving for me.I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.5 -
I shopped in Bee & Em yesterday & their 1kg bags of T & L granulated sugar are 89p. I only use sugar when baking (& then always use less than the recipe says), but OH uses a lot in hot drinks. Worth stocking up on, as I make a lot of marmalade, jams etc. KA4

Sweetbriarrose - I do try to live frugally and slow but it doesn't always happen, life is always getting in the way, but I do try and do something every day. I think its important to take a look at your life especially as one gets older and look after your health and what food you eat, I cook from scratch all the time now and eat very little processed food and that has nearly all gone from my cupboards now, hence the jam and lemon curd making. I grow food in the garden and I still have potatoes, leeks, kale and some cabbages to have and there may be a few parsnips if they have survived having all their leaves stripped away by slugs! so I have a few bits and I even picked four raspberries, two blackberries and a couple of alpine strawberries this morning, which I will have later with some yogurt (hm).
I must admit I do find it difficult at times especially if I haven't much time to cook, but if all else fails I make a risotto

kayannie - I think a trip to B&M is in order just for the sugar, that's much cheaper than the sm's, I'll just have to concentrate and not get swayed by their Xmas goodies!£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund3

Hello all
This morning I went with a friend to fat club and then came home, made lentil dhal and took the dog for a good run and walk. Lunch was the lentil dhal and I'm just about to start writing a letter and then a couple of Xmas and birthday cards for my middle daughter and family as they are coming to the wedding and I won't see them until next year, so it saves me postage and I know they got them!!
I have pinned the bridesmaids dress up and it just needs cutting and hemming which will be done tomorrow as I have to pick two dgd's up from school for their teas and do a bit more of the secret gift we are making, I can't say what it is or who its for as eldest dd sometimes reads this!!
Not sure what I'm having for tea but I rather fancy some pasta and veggies. The pooch is flat out asleep in his basket and snoring gently - blessI do love that little dog, well not so little really!
I haven't got around to looking anymore at my budget but as I'm not spending anything today it doesn't really matter and any dd's due to go out automatically thank goodness but I have allotted some money into the three money pots and if there's anything let over at the end of my 4 weeks I will put into one of those, to build it up quicker.
The house repair pot is mainly for the front room, I still need a carpet, bookshelves, and a settee and chair and I would like the handyman to come after Xmas to paint it, I already have the paint and may have a go myself but I fear my days of climbing ladders to paint high up have long gone, but I could do the walls I reckon.
The emergency fund has been wiped out partly by the extra large annual bill which is why I want to build that one up and
The annual bill pot is nil and the next round of bills will be in February, but I'm supposed to be having an eye test soon but I will put that off until after Xmas.
And that's it for today, I might just get in some rows of the jumper I'm knitting before I go to school as they go to after school club for a bit.
