It's too cold here to sit outside even if well wrapped up & now it's started raining!

I thought I'd lost my debit card a few weeks ago. I always keep it tucked inside my phone case so that I've always got it with me. I hunted high & low before giving up & ringing the bank in a bit of a panic. I had been holding on for over 30 minutes when I just happened to move a blanket that I'd had over my knees earlier and the card fell out!  So much for hunting high &low!  For once I was glad that the phone hadn't been answered quickly as a stop would have been put on my card & I would have been several days waiting for a replacement.

I found someone's card in the middle of nowhere last year. I tried ringing the number of the bank on the back of the card but it was impossible to talk to anyone at the bank - none of the automated options would let me get through to someone. The following day I took the card into a bank (not the cardholder's bank) and was told to just destroy it, which I did. As we live in an area popular with holiday makers, I hoped whoever had lost the card didn't have a ruined holiday!

Losing a card is scary - I did it recently but it turned up in some weird and wonderful place at home before I got through to the bank. (Wonder if banks deliberately keep people on hold to give time for cards to reappear...?) You have made me think, though - best to keep a bit of a cash float because you never know when it might be needed.

The solution is to have two current accounts each with a debit card. Each account should be with a different bank or building society. This will also enable you to access funds should there be an issue (like a technical failure) with a account at one of the bank's or building society.
And keep the debit cards separate in case you lose your wallet or purse. :)

kayannie & Cherryfudge - I went onto my banks website as I don't have the app and reported it lost on there, they then sent me an email to confirm it, so no waiting in a queue for anyone to answer, the only wait was for the replacement card that was a lot longer than the 5 working days!! But as I'd already drawn my cash out I was fine. I mostly use cash still and try to avoid supermarkets now as well, using local markets and traders etc.

Baron_Dale - i do have other banks saving accounts, but I put money in and very little comes out. They are my safety net but I would have to use them if I really needed to. Upto a few months ago I did hold some cash at home, but I have had some work done on the house and used most of it, I really ought to start putting some more away.

I have two bank accounts with debit cards, two credit cards (one Visa & Mastercard), one debit & one credit card get carried around with me, I keep about £20 cash at home (usually for local chinese ) and maybe £5-10 in my purse.

I feel well covered for most eventualities.

I've just made elderflower cordial - I make it every year & still have a small bottle in the fridge left over from last year. I love it, but being pre-diabetic I hardly drink it because the amount of sugar in it is horrendous! My OH loves it too, so I make it mainly for him.

I haven't been very lucky getting a L!DL box lately, they seem to go early so today I caught an early bus into town & got one, but even at 8.30 there weren't many left. I'm now sitting in my favourite coffee shop having a lovely cappuccino, waiting for the next bus home. I think the cost of the coffee cancels out my bargain box, but it is a rare treat!
