I use it, and put it straight away.
With contactless payments ... its a habit you would be wise to adopt.
Youre lucky that someone handec it instead of buying their shopping with it
I don't think I know anyone who has never lo their card so well done to you.

I have done lots of shop work, a long time ago and have given back many cards based on simple details and never once was I informed that a card had been given to the wrong person. It is a policy to deal with a problem that doesn't exist as far as I'm aware?Easy, see it all the time on local facebook groups.Someone takes a picture of the front of the card hiding the number, but leaving the person name showing. They then post that pic saying something along the lines of "Just found this bank card on the floor at Tesco. I have handed it into customer services. Doe's anyone know MISS B CARD"Good on Tesco for checking ID before just handing a card over. In your previous retail work, how would the customer know they lost their card at your shop if someone else claimed and it used it elsewhere? They could have lost it anywhere or had it stolen.4

You might be better advised considering this rather than complaining about Tesco wanting to see some ID this time ...Ok, I will try not being human.People keep telling me not to complain and yet no one can explain why this policy is needed. I will continue to complain about thing that don't make sense, thanks.
If anybody is being unreasonable it isn't Tesco...3 -
They're trying to protect your card and you're complaining about it. They asked for ID and you gave it to them and got your card back and now you're wasting their time calling them and complaining about hypothetical situations where you dont have ID. If you dont like the policy dont shop there or dont keep losing your card in their store.2

OP, just searched 'Bank Card' on the local facebook group. Tons of results giving the name and location it's been handed in.Wouldn't take much for someone to pop in the local B&Q store and say 'Hi, I'm Gurtude Surname, I believe someone has handed my nationwide card in' - Then go on a contactless spending free until it's blocked or requires a pin.2

While I can understand you being out and about without a wallet I find it harder to believe that you had no way to ID yourself. Pictures of you on facebook which also show your name? something in the glove compartment of your car with your name and address (like that utility bill that you need to get into the dump). the phone number for work where someone could describe you to them? (ok maybe that one is a bit weak...) Oh wait a minute! What about your clubcard tag on your key ring?? Surely you didn't leave the house without your keys??

As has been pointed out, the GDPR thing appears to be a red-herring, but it's not the first time and certainly won't be the last that a company hides behind "it's the law" so they don't have to get into a lengthy discussion (argument) with a customer justifying their policy.0 -
Thebiker said:I left my debit card in my local Tesco last night, I went to get it today, I told the person the details on the card and the time I left it there, then they told me I need ID or they can't give it to me. I was told by the manager this is due to data protection laws, is this correct and what are you supposed to do if you don't have ID?1
