Might just order one or 2 of the free sims.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers :eek: )!1 -
Indeed - I had a feeling you were already aware, but suspect other people reading the thread may not be, which is why I quoted and expanded on your point.jnm21 said:
Indeed - I was aware, but good point. I have a feeling we are closer to dealing with a 2G candy bar phone than a top end smartphone (possibly I am way off), hence I was thinking than the phone supporting WiFi, let alone WiFi calling may be the hurdle we fell at!tinker411 said:
Also, to some degree, if the network supports the phone in use too.jnm21 said:Re WiFi calling, it depends if the phone supports it & whether the OP needs to be able to receive while mobile.
I mention that because my phone supports WiFi calling (and 4G calling), and is tested and working for both via Three and EE. However - neither will work on Sky Mobile (O2) despite it having both, and it remains to be seen if either will work on Asda Mobile (Vodafone) who have both services live now but are having 'problems' activating them on my account.

With regards to the OPs subsequent post, you were right about the WiFi calling point, so coverage would be the best path to go down. With that in mind, for EE coverage, RWG would be the best option, on a money saving basis if nothing else.

I just ordered the free RWG sim to use as a backup (either in my dual sim phone or a backup phone) - excellent deal - perfect for ultra low use/2nd phone or SIM/similar. Could be invaluable for anyone with the misfortune to be paying for a Three contact & have issues being uncontactable randomly - forward the three calls to the RWG when out of contact.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers :eek: )!0

@jnm21 that last sentence is interesting, how do you do this forwarding to another number when out of contact?0
-
@gavinbaxter I intend to google that - I think I read of folk doing it on Giffgaff before. Possibly a USSD code? (Have I got that acronym right?)
Jackpot? https://www.androidauthority.com/call-forwarding-android-870778/
Looks to be fairly easy on my phone (P20 Pro):

@jnm21 Thanks, that's useful (I think). I've got a dual-sim phone and use the second sim as backup to make outgoing calls if primary sim has no service. Using your suggestion above I've set my primary service to Call Forward to my secondary number if unreachable.
That's the plan, just working out how to test it.....
EDIT: ...surprisingly easy to test, disable SIM 1, call SIM 1 number, call connects using SIM 2. Done.1 -

@jnm21 No problem. Even discovered, while shuggling the settings on my phone, that 1p mobile now have wi-fi calling (and 5g). Think I'm pretty much covered, coverage-wise.2

@gavinbaxter do you happen to know if EE pay & go gets 5G? My pay & go one has been offered everything unlimited for £1/day as many days as I like until the end of July & minded to use £1 to test 5G coverage/speeds.

@jnm21 Don't believe EE PAYG has 5G access (although 1p (EE) does).1
