PAYG provider using EE for incoming calls

Re WiFi calling, it depends if the phone supports it & whether the OP needs to be able to receive while mobile.
On the EE route, I can make a suggestion confidently (having just done it) - on ebay for £3.39 (possibly less if you use best offer) you can get an EE SIM with £5 credit. It is set up for the £10 per month bundle, but gives up after a few days with insufficient credit (and STOP ALL or similar to 150 should work too).
17 years for less than £3.50...

Re wi-fi calling, does need a model of phone that ASDA (Vodafone?) support. Afraid it's not free, comes out of your call credit.Farway said:getmore4less said:The 3 data reward sim can be set up for nothing(does not require top up)
They don't seem to kick you off if you don't have any chargeable.
Supports wifi calling so if you have an internet connection won't matter about the lack of 3 reception.
Have one in a spare phone just for the free 200MB a month of data.My bold, I don't know much about wi fi calling but the new [replacement] Asda voda SIM supports wi fi calling, so maybe Op can stick with Asda and their pound last forever as before?Anyone with more knowledge care to chip in? Would this work for OP?1 -
If only for receiving calls, which is what the OP wants, then WIFI calls would cost him nothing - could be a good solution OP - but you need to check your phone supports WIFI calls.
The idea of using a 3 Data SIM for WIFI calls is good - BUT - OP will need to be able to receive 3 signal in order to initially set up the SIM - rural Devon I am doubting has a good 3 signal1 -

Am I right to assume you need to make one text at 10p every 6 months - if yes, that is a SUPER deal if all you need is an incoming working mobile number2 -
One 15p text every six months - enough credit for 33 of them - 16.5 years plus the original 6 months.merchcon55 said:

Ah I got it - very nice if you need an active phone line1

Indeed, especially if you need to have EE - as ASDA & VM have proven, MVNO can & do swap over networks.merchcon55 said:Ah I got it - very nice if you need an active phone line
Have there been any other network swaps?
Can't think of any, but the three backup 2G signal agreement shenanigans were similar. The next closest would be the closure of masts when T mobile & Orange joined.
Strange that the only 2 to swap both have 2nd swaps on the horizon!Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!1 -
Also, to some degree, if the network supports the phone in use too.jnm21 said:Re WiFi calling, it depends if the phone supports it & whether the OP needs to be able to receive while mobile.
I mention that because my phone supports WiFi calling (and 4G calling), and is tested and working for both via Three and EE. However - neither will work on Sky Mobile (O2) despite it having both, and it remains to be seen if either will work on Asda Mobile (Vodafone) who have both services live now but are having 'problems' activating them on my account.1 -
Indeed - I was aware, but good point. I have a feeling we are closer to dealing with a 2G candy bar phone than a top end smartphone (possibly I am way off), hence I was thinking than the phone supporting WiFi, let alone WiFi calling may be the hurdle we fell at!tinker411 said:

Not quite, but certainly not 'top end'! An elderly OnePlus 3 handset, and I don't know whether wi-fi calling is an option on it. Unfortunately the ADSL speed here is also dreadful and fails completely several times most days. Over a mile on twisted copper from the nearest fibre cabinet. I've been in touch with RWG and think it may be the best solution, and have also ordered a free Vodafone SIM to see what signal there is. I hope that I will be able to see signal strength (or lack of it) just by inserting the SIM without activating it. Thanks again for all the input.jnm21 said:I have a feeling we are closer to dealing with a 2G candy bar phone than a top end smartphone (possibly I am way off), hence I was thinking than the phone supporting WiFi, let alone WiFi calling may be the hurdle we fell at!
