Annoying Drivers Vent!

Speaking of sheep, I was once going home from work in Leeds on the M621, behind a queue of traffic behind a road-works dumper type truck, late 1990s I think.Anyway, there were loads of roadworks at the time and down to one lane we all sat behind the dumper doing probably 30mph.Dumper turns off the motorway into the roadworks, clearly the case as there was no road surface but just a muddy area. That didn't stop the 5 or 6 cars behind him following him into the road works.Cue much hilarity when the dumper driver got out to dump his load of sand and saw a queue of cars lined up behind him with their drivers scratching their heads.Luckily I wasn't one of them as I drove past laughing my head off.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1082

I agree. In my car, I would usually put the foot down and get out of that situation. But my company van has a speed limiter and won’t go past 70 and ends up getting trapped by those people.Username03725 said:
Sometimes it's better to get ahead even if it means going over 70 for a short while.Roland_Sausage said:"The hoverers"
Most of the motorways in Scotland are 2 lane and I drive a van limited to 70 (on the Speedo).
I'm driving in lane 1, there's an HGV ahead of me, but it's fine it's half a mile away and this guy hovering just over my right shoulder in lane 2 will be ahead of me by then, allowing me to change lane.
Half a mile on and he's still there, still attempting to overtake me with his cruise control set to 70.00001 mph. Surely he can see that I'm closing in rapidly on the HGV and will stick his foot down and give it a burst of speed?Nope, eventually I admit defeat and cancel my own cruise control and have to hang back, whilst he finally passes completely oblivious, followed by the big queue of traffic that has built up behind him, which traps me behind the HGV for a while.
In similar situations e.g. in lane 2 approaching slower traffic so ready to move to L3 but the traffic in 3 that was being held back by a slower driver now isn't as he's moved back to 2 and is now approaching over my shoulder at a rate that will box me in; in that case I'd happily accelerate out of the situation than be caught up in it. A short squirt of power to get out of that situation then drop back in in front of the traffic you were approaching = job done. The approaching L3 traffic can carry on unhindered and you're not trapped while the backlog of traffic eases past you.0 -
There’s the folk that have a minor bump, and instead of moving their car out of the live traffic lane and finding somewhere to park and sort things out, they stand there blocking the road while they swap insurance details, take photos, then pace back and forward whilst on the phone to their insurance companies from the scene (and probably their boss to tell them they will be late to work). Meanwhile traffic chaos ensues as everyone has to go around them.
This is often on a busy roundabout but I’ve also seen it on a motorway (in the actual lane, not the hard shoulder) during stop/start traffic.
I was involved in such a bump at a roundabout a few months back, and the first thing i said to the other guy was “let’s go and find somewhere to park around the corner to sort this out” which we did.
I’m talking about minor collisions where there’s maybe a dented or cracked bumper, or a scrape. Not anything that would incapacitate a vehicle or where anyone is injured.0 -
I was reading something the other day about a long-awaited new dual carriageway about to open. A five mile stretch is 50mph limited. People are up in arms at the delays this will cause.Ganga said:
If it is 29 mph in a 30 mph zone then whats the problem ? if 1 mph makes the difference between being on time or late for work you are leaving home too late .Brie said:Has anyone mentioned the old dears who toddle along at 29mph and slow to almost a full stop indicating to turn left and then realise that it's not the right road so proceed straight ahead verrrrry verrrrrrrrrry slowly regaining their stop speed of 29mph? Repeatedly? When I'm trying to get to work on time??
It will add 105 seconds, compared to 70mph.2 -
As you go one way to find a somewhere to park other goes on his journey regardless leaving you wondering where he is.Roland_Sausage said:There’s the folk that have a minor bump, and instead of moving their car out of the live traffic lane and finding somewhere to park and sort things out, they stand there blocking the road while they swap insurance details, take photos, then pace back and forward whilst on the phone to their insurance companies from the scene (and probably their boss to tell them they will be late to work). Someone did that to me once. Knocked me off my bike on a roundabout as I stood there looking at my very bent dislocated finger he said he'd just move his car out of the way. Never saw him again. As you go one way to find a somewhere to park other goes on his journey regardless leaving you wondering where he is.0
