Yes I do menu plan, religiously! I tried it sometimes with freezing things but then mum always lets the cat out of the bag and tells him!joedenise said:@DaffyDaisies - could you freeze the leftovers and bring them out again a week or two later so that your dad won't realise they are leftovers? Alternatively can you do something different so it's not the same meal? For example roasting a chicken then use some of the leftovers to make a pie and some to make a curry? You then have a couple of meals using leftovers and they don't need to be used the next day they can be frozen and used at a later date.
Do you menu plan? If not you will probably find that you can save quite a bit by doing so. Also make sure that everything gets used and not thrown away.

Hello all and commiserations to all those suffering from relatives who let cats out of bags 🐈
My mother used to say we were having YMCA for tea when I was little - it stood for Yesterday's Meal Cooked Again.
I dashed into Sainsby's yesterday in search of sherry vinegar, £1.70, and then into M*rks for organic milk, carrots, new pots, broad beans and onions, £4.15, all of which brings my new total to £48.87/£124 and my average daily spend to £5.43.8 -
£45 spent at the market this morning, plus a whopping £13 at the bakery (oh yum, worth every penny!) bringing me up to £190.05 I think. Which feels ok at this point in the month... we'll be eating lots from the freezer this week as I really need to crack on with emptying & cleaning the old one, which is becoming a grain store. Then the little freezer that's been doing that job for flour, rice & oats can go, as well as the poultry feed bin, and then I can fit my mothers dining chairs into the garage! Which will eventually go off with DD1...Angie - GC Nov 25 £340.86/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6

Ye gads....another £107 this week!! It is to do with DD who is back from uni. She is vegetarian and likes avacado and halloumi and all the "millenial" fancy stuff. 🙄5

LOL - i did the same in May between Asda & JS. I was making a note of the JS prices on the Asda receipt. There are A LOT of price discrepanciesGSDMum said:Yes, I know I'm a bit of an 'anorak'
Visited Aldi for a top up. Thought I'd do a comparison with Tesco, my 'normal' shopping (home delivery) store. Can't say the product comparison was an exact match, but it was close.
Spent £38.89 with Aldi, same'ish' cost with Tesco would have been £41.82 - a saving of £4.93. Mind I needed petrol to get to Aldi, where with Tesco, I pay £7.99 per month for Tesco Super Delivery Saver. (At this point my head starts spinning).
So far this month I've spent £254.09 (29th June) on a big Tesco delivery, and £38.89 today = £290.98 leaving £9.02 for the rest of the month.
My menu plan for July is now fully provisioned, even so, it's going to be interesting!

Perhaps if she was to buy it herself she may be less picky ... Does she pay housekeeping?Tightpants24 said:Ye gads....another £107 this week!! It is to do with DD who is back from uni. Hello all - OH been off this week so we've had a few lunches out and about. Went to beach hut yesterday and while I could have done a picnic, fish & chips for lunch always feel so lovely eaten at the hut. So few lunches, costs not included in grocery budget, but they were cheaper than a holiday!
Few shops:
WRose 34.20 / £land £5 / JS £26.53 = 65.73
Still have Mr Milkman to pay but doing OK.- Grocery Challenge: April £263.60 / £250

I don't ask for any housekeeping from her while she is a student. She did pay board when she was working during her gap year, and has a job for the summer so we aren't subsidising her in other ways. She has had issues with eating disorders in the past so I don't want to discourage her current enthusiasm for the food she is enjoying. I suspect she is taking advantage of the bank of mum on this one but I am just going to let it go (while moaning on here about my grocery bills).Sallyp2 said:

Tight pants, same with my Ds3. Although he is not veggie/vegan so I spend more on meat and fish.
So, last week it was £20 at the butcher and £8 at the fishmonger but some was frozen for later in the month. Added to this was £8.61 at Sains for milk bread, fruit and veg, a total of £36.61.Grocery challenge 2025: £1293/1500 annual budget6
