Well she missed the Ford Fusion as it had sold. Today we went and looked at a Vauxhall Agila we liked the car, OK it is a Suzuki underneath, but that one had too many problems so are continuing the search for a decent automatic car with high driving position, A/C and hopefully cheap to buy and run.

I wouldn't bother with a Vauxhall Agila; they're horrible cars as normal, let alone hampered by an automatic gearbox.  I knew someone who had one, it was an evil handling thing entirely unsuited to a new driver.  Sometimes, it seems, what a new or inexperienced driver thinks he or she wants is the last thing he or she should actually have.  A car with no power might appear 'safe', as it's not very fast, but that also means pulling out of junctions or off slip roads becomes a terrifying ordeal.  A tall car might offer a commanding view of the road, but it does so at the expense of being top heavy, thus a pig round corners.  Something that goes, turns and stops better is actually reassuring.

I started out with the usual old supermini and never felt safe driving it.  I bought a large family hatch, unusually for a 17 year old, to replace it and my experience on the road was transformed for the better.

I have a 1.6 petrol Fusion that has just passed its MOT with no problems. I did the tire mounting, change the front springs and replace the timing belt. Love this little car.
