Having driven one and also a Fiesta, I'd go for a Fiesta, the Fusion seemed much less agile
Tbh, the higher driving position is much more important than a minor difference in handling, the improved visibility in the fusion allows you to anticipate better. Plus, if like Mrs G-J you have a bad back, the Fusion is so much easier to get in and out of, she finds it easier than getting in and out of her Pug 3008..
Well some people will prefer the Fusion's higher driving position. Fiesta felt all round more responsive and if you don't need the higher driving position, the Fiesta would be car to go for. I also have a bad back and have had little problem getting in/out of the Fiesta.  Contemporary reviews tended to favour the Fiesta over the Fusion
yeah, and the boy racers round here are in fiestas, not fusions ;)

I would expect the fusion to be cheaper to insure than a fiesta, there's a fiesta stolen every night here, never heard of a fusion going ;)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

How many of those Festers are 10+yo giffermatic granny-spec? And how many are newish boy-racer-spec?

There are quite a few Fiestas near where I live, none are driven by boy racers

You do not appear to have a high opinion of Fusion owners
    Am I wrong?
Do Fusion owners care about the handling?
Whether you agree with it or not, cars do tend to reflect the aspirations of the driver and the Fusion is one that just says the driver wants a cheap, no frills, A to B car that does nothing exciting at all.
And, as I said, there's nothing wrong with at all, some people just want transport that keeps the rain off, the actual driving experience is of no concern.

I was not suggesting your opinion of Fusion owners was incorrect

So when I state "there's nothing wrong with that", where do you get off saying I don't have a very high opinion of their owners?

    now, now children.....

..this no-frills, cheap-as-chips motoring Fusion driver didn't take offence, so no need to fall out on my behalf :)

..and before you pass harsh judgement, I spent my younger days driving sporty Alfas and race-engined Minis ;)

A friend has got the Fiesta that shape Fusion is derived from and she says it's a good car.  I drove a similar Fiesta years ago, works pool car, and it was wasn't at all bad.  I remember thinking the gearchange felt a bit clunky but there was nothing else 'bad' about it.  They feel a bit heavier more solid than the previous shape, which I like to think of as the last 'real' Fiesta.  The predecessor, as a result, is more fun to drive and is better looking.
I'd avoid any sort of automated manual and get one with a proper manual gearbox, though.

I loved my Ford Fusion - I had the "full" automatic version.  Comfy, roomy and easy to get in & out off. Great boot space too.  Got written off 6 years ago, I still miss it :(
Had Ford still been making Fusions I would have bought a newer one.
