Can't you raise some money on the overseas property to bridge the gap?
No, to do so I'd need to be a resident. I'm a dual citizen but not currently a resident.

Are you sure on that point? if it's a regular income, proven as coming in to your bank along with contract of tenancy should be able to show you have a stream of income. I assume its declared and thus you are taxed on it?
I've asked this a million times with different brokers. It's down to the currency and this currency is considered too volatile.

If its a taxable income (with HMRC) it will be proven as a fairly reliable income. Might be worth posting over in the Mortgage board here, theres a few brokers over there who might be able to advise.

A quick search around shows some leaders will accomodate foreign income if taxed and shown with tenacy agreements etc. Might be a more specialised broker might be able to help.
I dont want to give false hope though! but if you are eager its worth a try.

One thing which occurs to me, you may already have done, is to go to a local estate agent and just discuss the market and your situation - what does exist that might come up in your budget.  So not just properties which are currently available but their knowledge of the local area and housing in it.  Might be interesting or useful, only a bit of time spent if it isn't.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

You currently can only afford to buy houses where there isn't enough room for your kids to have your own space so the logical idea would be to sell the property to get money to get a more suitable house.

If your mum would disown you just because you sold a property to give your kids a better life then maybe it's best she wasn't in your life if that's how she feels about her own grandchildren's needs!.
Well in her eyes, I can house my two children step-children is a different matter though and completely different conversation.

Maybe you just need to make 'peace' with the fact that you cannot afford to move?  Not an easy thing to do, but if you can't  move you need to find a way to make the best of what you Have.

Maybe tell family they need to visit you, as you need to fund a house move and explain why?

I know you have mentioned holidays and that they are important, are we talking flights / beaches and sunshine holidays.... or a tent / caravan holiday in the UK, again expectations / reality?

Can you post a SOA so people can maybe help you budget / savings plan?

Sorry if you have stated and I have missed it, do you have and debts and do you have a pot for emergency living costs?

Actually, I've told my family they really don't fit in the house if they visit, but they tend to think it's an exaggeration. I hate caravans and tents, I'm originally from one of the holiday capitals of the world (and oddly enough live in the holiday capital of the UK) to me they're completely incomparable and thus why I need to "escape" from this place every so often.

We have a rolling emergency fund, but we never need to touch it as we do tend to have enough disposable income to just take it from our monthly income.

We spend overall £2400 a month that for a family of six, with a dog, a cat and nursery costs seems quite reasonably to us (and everywhere I've asked).
