People need to be educated about contactless payments

Something or someone needs to tell people that double beep on contactless payments means it has not gone through. It's a single long beep.  Also that every so often, a card requires a chip n pin payment.

Shops have seen customers walk away not paying for their goods because of this. I have seen this myself at other shops. It may have happened at my work, but can't think of examples.

Then as I work at a supermarket, when I say to customers that the payment needs a chip n pin payment or need to try again as double beeped, some get very aggressive.  with us. The former has got nothing to do with us, its their bank. If they went to another shop instead, they would have the same problem.

Anyone else who works in retail gets this from customers? How is the best way of stopping this aggression?

Yes, when I used to work in retail I had customers that weren't aware of how contactless worked. Unfortunately this is something, you experience in a customer facing role. I think the key thing it not to be bothered about it, not everyone reads the forum or cares how card payments work, they just normally tap and hope for the best.

Can't say about all shops I go to but at my local butcher when my contactless is rejected a message pops up saying inset card (or something similar), I'm also given the rejected receipt.

Never noticed a difference with beeps in the various shops, but that's probably due to being busy chatting or trying to get my shopping packed.

I've noticed that I often get the message on my phone saying "phone moved too fast" or words to that effect, when I've had my phone completely still in the correct position over the reader. I just keep it there and it then seems to work OK

I’ve never really had issues with customers to be honest. Ours usually know the score and ask if it’s gone through a lot of the time- but I think our pin pad also tells you if it hasn’t gone through.

You can educate people all you like. But you will always get the idiots who kick off.
Time retailers took a stance and security marched them out and they were banned from shopping there in the future. Along with their picture posted by the entrance.

There is absolutely no excuse for abusing any staff member.

On the other side I have had shop staff that asked me to use another card and were upset when I said it will work fine using chip/pin (it does).

Poeple on all side sometimes think they know what is going on and are wrong.

    Such is life!

As someone with hearing problems I can often not hear the beep so can't tell if it's one or two. It's worse just now not being able to wear my hearing aid with my mask. People like me are really struggling.
