Some advice from the experts please? I’m advised that the Aldi Roosters range contains good copies of KFC chicken. I love KFC, but can’t get it. Any thoughts on the Aldi dupe please?
The Lidl version is good but not as nicely greasy as KFC if you know what I mean.  Haven't had the Aldi version. Yet.

Lidl has its conserves on special offer this week - I bought a jar of black cherry and although I have not yet opened it, I can see from the way it moves in the jar that it looks a bit watery. (In contrast, I bought some Extra Special Morello cherry jam from Asda last week and that looked to have a good pectin content). Any thoughts on the Lidl range?

I've never noticed the Lidl jams etc are especially watery.  But when I do get a watery one I find they work very nice to top plain yoghurt or on a plain cheesecake or (nom!) vanilla ice cream.

@Rosa_Damascena can you possibly take a picture of the jam’s nutritional and ingredient info for me please? I’d like to compare sugar content with another brand and Lidl doesn’t have the info online. If you can’t be bothered, that’s fine.

I discovered Aldi Takeaway bars a couple of weeks ago - a slab of pretty nice chocolate sandwiched between two thin, crisp biscuits.    I assume they're a copy of something, but I know not what.

    5 bars for £1.19

I did also put this through the Open Food Facts app - although there are v few ingredients, 3 of them (sloe juice, citric acid and pectins) are UP.

@Brie - yes the plan was to add a small quantity to strained yoghurt. I opened it up just now - in the name of research, you understand - and although it isn't watery, nor is it an ultra-firm set either. Tasted ok though, not the best but not the worst either.

Yes, I think so.   I saw some Pickups in Home Bargains and they looked very similar.  £2, though, so a fair bit more expensive than Aldi.

@Rosa_Damascena thank you for the picture! I was trying to check the amount of sugar in them. BTW, how does having sloe juice in there change the taste profile?

It makes it slightly sharp, which I prefer to overly sweet. (I dipped a fork in this morning to try the taste again - am getting over the 'flu so my usually keen sense of smell and taste is not back to 100% as yet).

  • Might take a trip to Lidl this evening to see if those tuna pasta salads are still on cheap and pick one up for tomorrow.
